And Life Goes On

             And Life Goes On

To the man who lost his mind.

Left his home for the last time.

They found him in the wintertime.

Looking for something he couldn’t find.

They shipped him way out West.

The distance put their minds at rest.

Napa State Hospital did their best.

Such a warm and cozy nest.

Back home they threw the key away.

For them, there was nothing left to say.

Thing is, he did get better one day.

Then he went back home to stay.

Then, there was the girl next door.

The one that he was searching for.

He loved her to his very core.

He wanted to get to know her more.

But, when he tries she starts to cry.

She locks the door & hopes to die.

Makes him wonder if he should even try.

Finally, he gives up with just a sigh.

His reputation follows him.

“He is nuts”, he hears again & again.

Everyone’s fear comes from within.

They worry he may flip out again.

There is no life here for him anymore.

He has to forget about the girl next door.

His life is becoming such a bore.

He just can’t take it anymore.

There he sits in a café in a new town.

There is no one else around.

He thinks back; his face makes a frown.

I guess there is no where he is bound.

A girl comes in &  takes a close seat.

She looks lonely and really beat.

They talk & she asks “Will you go with me?”

He says “Anywhere is a better place to be.”

Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

My girl and I were out in the woods.

Checking out nature as best we could.

“Watch out for that poison oak”

“O.k.” I said as I gave her a poke.

We wound up down by the lake.

The warm sun made us feel like we would bake.

We decided to take a swim.

The water was cool as we got in.

We swam out to the raft anchored there.

Climbed on board & wrung out our underwear.

We splashed around some just for fun.

Then we laid back to soak up the sun.

Before long we heard some noise.

We looked up and saw two boys.

They were filming us with a phone.

Then they took off heading for home.

We got out fast and got dressed.

We tried to catch them. We did our best.

They were gone but, they went to our school.

We had a feeling we would end up being the fool.

Sure enough, Monday when we went to school

people were snickering & acting real cool.

We found out later pictures of us on the raft

went out to half the students real fast.

Our reputations really suffered after that.

It made both of us feel like crap.

We ended up getting married after graduation.

Years later, we still recall that situation.

The moral is don’t go skinny dipping with your chick.

The aftermath will cause you a fit.

As for the two who filmed us there.

Later they went to jail for an x-rated affair.

They got what they deserved in the end.

Never film others and do not send

the pictures to others without permission.

It is a sin for which there is no omission.—–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Rainy Day Thoughts

       Rainy Day Thoughts

It is raining all around.

It really makes a pretty sound.

It hasn’t rained in a long time.

3 years of drought isn’t kind.

Things have gotten pretty dry.

Forrest fires have gone awry.

I decided to take a walk.

A walk in the rain. Time for thought.

There must be something we can do.

As a human race to defeat the flu.

Ebola is spreading by leaps and bounds.

No solution seems to be found.

Crime and violence is on the raise.

Financial institutions surmise

that a financial crash may happen.

What will that do to our faction?

Things will go to hell in a hand basket.

Robbery will become a daily habit.

Enough about depressing thoughts.

I look at the present I had bought.

A surprise for my wife’s soon birthday.

She celebrates it more than Earth Day.

We have a lot of happy things planned.

Yes, troubling things are at hand.

But, with the ones we love near,

one thing stands out very clear.

Praise the Lord for the rain for the parched land.

And praise the Lord for the loved ones at hand.

They can make a depressing day happy.

I love it when my kids call me Pappy.

Searching For Love

        Searching For Love

All the nights blend into days.

My total world is one big haze.

Drifting from one bar to another.

Always searching for the other.

Significant other that’s mine alone.

Someone I can take with me home.

Each time it’s always the same.

I can’t find another to play the game.

My temper is like a loaded pistol.

My love is fragile as a crystal.

I am asked “Do your friends miss you?”

That is just that much more scar tissue.

I’m just looking for someone to love.

The answer is not in the stars above.

I don’t know if I’m up or down.

Each day is the same as I look around.

Sometimes I feel I am getting close.

Then it passes just like a ghost.

I want to change but, I am driven on.

Some people think I am running a con.

I just want someone who thinks like me.

To share my moments of ecstasy.

My temper is like a loaded pistol.

My love is fragile as a crystal.

I am asked ”Do your friends miss you?”

That is just that much more scar tissue.

I’m just looking for someone to love.

The answer is not in the stars above.

My heart is strained from dusk till dawn.

What I need is a magic wand.

I could wave it toward that special one.

She would come to me on the run.

Nights and days all blur together.

I have pushed myself to the letter.

If she is out there, she’s playing coy.

I think it’s the end of the road for this boy.

Who Is The Fool Now?

          Who Is The Fool Now?

How long was it before you knew?

You are never too old to be a fool.

You fell for this one real big time.

Sorry but, I’m glad she wasn’t mine.

She told you she loved only you.

She said that no one else would do.

Yet, she was seen all over town

with others that she had found.

She was worse than “Run around Sue.”

Just another way to hurt you.

There is a name for people like her.

She deserves to be called it for sure.

It is not my place to judge another.

She was even in trouble with her mother.

Her actions judged her for others.

It is a shame she had her druthers.

It is wrong that you end up the loser.

Easy to say you shouldn’t have chosen her.

Once you did, you were a goner.

Now, your doomed to wander.

One day she will meet her undoing.

She will no longer be fooling

around with every guy in town.

She will be wearing her face in a frown.

The one she really wants will dump her.

She will be feeling like you do, sir.

So, be patient, and in due time.

I am going to make her mine.

Then I will make the wrongs right.

I will dump her without any fight.

She will be getting off easy.

No, don’t think of it as sleazy.

She has hurt too many of my friends.

I will make her pay in the end.

Vengeance is mine sayith the Lord.

The thought of that struck a chord.

Guess I will back off for awhile.

The Lord will take care of her in style.——-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Snippets Of Simplicity

           Snippets Of Simplicity

This might be the day to run away.

To see who comes after you today.

Talking quieter at times is good.

To see who is listening, like they should.

Sometimes stepping up, ready to fight,

will show who steps up with you tonight.

Sometimes, making the wrong decision.

Lets you see who helps fix it with a revision.

Sometimes you have to let her go, & yearn.

Just to see if she loves you enough to return.

Sometimes doing what seems to be wrong

is the only way to make the relationship strong.

It never hurts to forgive more than once.

In the end, you’re a winner, regardless of the bumps.

The heart can shatter and be torn apart.

Also the heart is flexible and can mend & restart.

What goes up must come down.

Life goes on, then comes around.

A circle continues without end.

It stretches through time, though it may twist and bend.

All things have a beginning and an end.

Not a counterdiction, just ask a friend.

Negativity Will Not Stay

        Negativity Will Not Stay

There’s a light on in your house today.

But, you’re not there. You’ve gone away.

I wanted so for you to stay—– to stay.

You seemed so distant and far away.

I couldn’t give you a reason to stay.

The little things, they mean alot.

They give hope where there is not.

But, negative things hang on & rot.

Though one of us may have forgot.

I’m sorry to say—- that I forgot.

Communication opens up the door.

It allows us to get to the very core.

Then neither needs to feel sore.

Before it turns negative some more.

Not discussing it is what I abhor.

Friends ask me where you’ve gone?

They never ask why it took so long.

They  don’t know what went wrong.

They know I’m singing a different song.

Ever since they know you’ve been gone.

Where is it that you needed to go?

Just away from me is all I know.

It could have been a different show.

We needed to take it really slow.

Then, at least, we both would know.

I’m cashing in on promises of yours.

Driving by is one of my daily chores.

I’ve found mine. Have you found yours?

If you have you’ll be home, of course.

Then we’ll become a mighty force.

The two of us will become as one.

Sharing our love under the sun.

Blending together like coke and rum.

No more negatives will ever come.

We will both know: You are the one.———R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Fed Up

                  Fed Up!!

You’re tearing me up inside.

Your comments make me want to die.

The tongue is a two edged sword.

You’ve gone too far & cut the cord.

You have ripped me up, tore me down.

Made me look just like a clown.

Then you think I should forgive.

You leave me bleeding like a sieve.

I’m putting my foot down.

I’m turning over and turning around.

Look at me and see an icy stare.

This romance isn’t going anywhere.

————- 0————-

I’m gonna harden my heart.

I’m gonna walk out the door.

It’s time for me to get smart.

I can’t take it anymore.

Look for me at Heartbreak Hotel.

Down at the end of Lonely Street.

I have been through enough hell.

Time for me to hear a new beat.

I’m gonna walk to a different drum.

No more time to sit and cry.

I am through with being so dumb.

The parade’s not passing me by.————–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Punk Skunk (4 poems)

Punk Skunk

Punk Skunk went to town

with his britches upside down.

Punk Skunk let a fart

and blew the sidewalk all apart.

When the police came to see.

Punk Skunk said “It wasn’t me.”

But, they knew that he had lied.

Cause Punk Skunk’s smell

could make you cry, or die.—————–R. W. Johnson—–(1984)

Punk goes to school

One day Punk Skunk went to school.

Just to see how much he knew.

The teacher said it’s time for art.

Punk Skunk thought she said to fart.

Punk Skunk passed an awful smell

that made the children cough & yell.

As the children choked & screamed,

Punk Skunk up & split the scene.

He said “Home is the place for me.

I’m smarter than them. It’s plain to see.”—–R. W. Johnson—–(1984)

Punk Skunk has a date

Punk Skunk called someone for a date.

He was told he better not be late.

When he arrived, she opened the door

&  immediately fell upon the floor.

She coughed & choked & held her nose.

Then sprayed him down with a water hose.

Punk Skunk ran away in tears

& hasn’t had another date in years.———–R. W. Johnson—–(1985)

Punk Skunk’s first job

Punk Skunk got a job one day.

Watching children while they play.

But, when the children came outside.

They coughed & choked & almost died.

They all fell upon the ground

& started spinning round & round.

Punk Skunk didn’t know what to do.

He thought, maybe,  they had the flu.

He thought they could use some air.

So he fanned his tail on everyone there.

But, when they started turning blue

Punk Skunk didn’t know what to do.

So Punk Skunk turned & ran away.

He quit his job that very day.——————R. W. Johnson—–(1985)

“Pookey”

“ Pookey”

Oh, Pookey—you’re the most.

Your hard to find.

Just like a ghost.

You come and go.

just like the wind.

I never know

when you’ll be in.

Can you take me

wherever you go.

So that I’ll always be

part of your show.

From the highest mountains

to the deepest seas.

To life’s bubbling fountains.

Just you and me.

We’ll slide down a rainbow.

We’ll dance in fairy dust.

We’ll have a sparkling  glow

like the sun at dawn or dusk.

We’ll get lost in our magical world.

Riding dragons and having thrills.

Morning will find me curled up

In my bed . But,— where will you be??——-R. W. Johnson—–(2011)
