A Fight To The End

           A Fight To The End

The guns kept firing night and day.

The war was over, but they will not obey.

They will never surrender their will.

They will fight and continue to kill.

They are free and will stay that way.

Better to die than give that away.

They have their God and their religion.

Their dove of peace won’t be a pidgin.

There is no white flag above their door.

They are dedicated to their very core.

Guerrilla fighters, they’ve been called.

They fight at night and in the fog.

They do all that they can do

to not surrender, like a common fool.

Their spirit is strong. Their cause is true.

They are fighting for me and you.

True, they see no end in sight.

Still they battle with all their might.

They must be admired for their zest.

They will give all for their quest.

Women and children will fight too.

There is nothing they won’t do for you.

Who are these fearless fighters, I say?

They are those who want a better way.

They are known by their cause.

They want better overalls.

One Of These Days

   One Of These Days

One of these days.

I will write my memoirs.

I will try to really say

how it really was.

I will try to lay it on the line.

How I felt deep inside.

Talk of times that were fine.

Talk of offspring with pride.

Mention the bad times too.

Times I would like to forget.

Yet, they were part of me & you.

Times I can’t really regret.

One of these days.

I will really reminisce.

Talk of the different ways

things changed to progress.

There is much to be said.

It all happened along the way.

It wasn’t all in my head.

It was just any old kind of day.

Except for all we did and said.

We had fun in different ways.

Vows were respected when we wed.

They were called the good old days.

One of these days.

I will set the story straight.

Open the eyes of all who stay.

Pull up a seat and don’t be late.

If you have wondered about the past?

Often thought about those times.

Wondered why they didn’t last?

I will tell the truth this time.

Tell just how it all happened.

What brought an end to the good old days.

I won’t vary it a fraction.

The reason is hard to understand today.

One of these days.

One of these days.

The Car Wash

                The Car Wash

They say it’s all happening at the zoo.

I can’t say that is totally true.

It’s happening at the car wash too.

There is so much there to see and do.

The water sprays out and soaks the car.

You’re not moving, but stay where you are.

Next, big brushes scrub car and wheels.

Soap is sprayed on and makes it squeal.

Then, here comes the water again.

Sprays all clean beginning to end.

Then some wax is sprayed on.

Then, just like that, it is gone.

You’re moved forward into a blast of air.

It dries your car with time to spare.

All of this takes minimal time.

Quicker than this poem can rhyme.

Off you go with a shinny clean car.

No doubt, it will rain before you get far.

Day And Night

Day And Night

It was a day.

It was a day.

Oh, what a day.

I came to play.

It was today.

Oh, what a day.

In the end,

 I had to stay.

It was a day.

Oh, what a day.

It was a night.

Oh, what a night.

It was this night.

We were a sight.

Oh, what a night.

We didn’t fight.

We got it right.

I had to stay.

Oh, what a night.

Now, it’s every night.

The King’s Assassin

           The King’s Assassin

He sat, back leaning against a tree.

Polishing the metal of his weaponry.

His metal mesh vest was spotless.

He was thorough. He did not miss.

Yet, he would soon smear it all with mud.

Cut down glare as much as he could.

Some called him a killer, some a knight.

When he killed, he did it right.

He was the king’s secret assassin.

None knew his skills. They didn’t ask him.

He worked mostly at night when dark.

None knew he was around. He was smart.

It was always those who needed killing.

They were well protected, but he was willing.

He did his job and he did it well.

His victim died before he could yell.

He was highly skilled in all known weaponry.

His hand to hand skills were the best you would see.

No matter how hard, he didn’t back down.

He was paid well. That’s why he stayed around.

No one knew his real name.

He had no friends. He had no fame.

Nothing he did was ever tied to him.

He remained a common man so he could win.

Anomaly was one of his best tools.

He only followed his own rules.

He never got close to anyone.

Always paranoid, he trusted no one.

He was almost assassinated while doing a job.

To him, that was extremely odd.

He went all out to find out who it was.

They were hired by someone, was the buzz.

Through very crafty detective work,

he tracked down the little twerp.

It turned out to be a female.

His attack on her did not fail.

But, first he found out who hired her.

Before long, they were dead for sure.

This was the life of The King’s secret assassin.

He remains alone. That is his passion.

He has standards that he follows.

All of his own making. They are not hollow.

They are all to keep him alive.

Keep it so his business will thrive.

He is the best at what he does.

Yet, he had to sacrifice who he was.

Co- Dependent?

            Co Dependent??

I needed you then. I need you now.

You could always show me how.

You would show me a better way.

That’s why I wanted you to stay.

Time has passed, but little changed.

I tell you truly, I still feel the same.

As usual, you have much work to do.

I know you will help me see it through.

I wanted more. From the very start.

You reigned me in. It’s quite an art.

You kept me from becoming a fool.

That is why I will always need you.

You rule my very soul.

I pray you’ll never go.

Without you, I would be lost.

I want you near at any cost.

You never asked a thing in return.

You acted as if you weren’t concerned.

I am willing to do all you need.

It has always been my creed.

But, that’s not how I want it to be.

You mean so very much to me.

All I do is done in love from my heart.

That’s why I wish we will never  part.

I wanted more from the very start.

You reigned me in. It’s quite an art.

You kept me from becoming a fool.

That is why I will always need you.

You rule my very soul.

I pray you’ll never go.

Without you, I would be lost.

I want you near at any cost.

Early Morning Dawn

    Early Morning Dawn

In the early morning dawn.

With a coffee in my hand.

I remember that you are gone.

No longer now am I your man.

In my car, down the street from you.

I see the frost upon the lawn.

I am wondering what to do?

My head is throbbing. What’s going on?

The coffee seems to help a little.

It is all that drinking done last night.

I am no longer as fit as a fiddle.

Mostly,—– I am just uptight.

You and I were a perfect pair.

Till the day our child died.

You didn’t talk. You wouldn’t share.

I did all I could. I really tried.

You cut me loose & I was lost.

I turned to drinking. Empty inside.

The sun is up & melting the frost.

Soon, he’ll be here to give you a ride.

He pulls up in his shiny sports car.

I know it is mostly all for show.

On the seat, he has his guitar.

How you two met, I’ll never know.

You come running out to meet him.

He holds you briefly in his arms.

You head to work with him then.

I know he is captured by your charms.

I just sit & stare at the empty road.

There is no reason for me to stay.

I feel half dead & I am getting cold.

I guess I’d best be on my way.

Dancing In The Moonlight

Dancing In The Moonlight

You were dancing in the moonlight.
Your eyes were alight, your face bright.
I didn’t know who you were ?
But, I liked what I saw, for sure.

Like a fairy dancing in the wind.
You fluttered all around again.
You didn’t know that I was there.
Your eyes were blue, your skin fair.

You’re a sight I will never forget.
Every move just seemed to fit.
I could imagine the pixie dust.
Being stirred up by your lust.

Like you were one with nature.
Every move had its place here.
You were in a world of your own.
The music was from a heavenly throne.

It was a song only you could hear.
The wind was whistling in my ear.
I was lost in the colors of your dress.
By far, I knew that you were the best.

Eventually, you noticed me standing there.
You brushed some leaves from your hair.
You approached, a smile on your lips.
Was I really going to be part of this?

I joined you in your dance to the moon.
My feelings racing, my heart did swoon.
Before I knew it, it was all over.
You gave me a hug, standing in clover.

Then, suddenly, you were gone.
I have no idea what went wrong.
First you were there, then you were not.
I looked around, glued to the spot.

Were you my imagination or not?
Maybe it never happened, I thought.
But, then I got a whiff of your scent.
I knew it was real and all that it meant.

Every full moon I look for you.
Wherever you go, I’m going to.
I refuse to stay behind.
You and I are one of a kind.

The Wind Of Change

The Wind Of Change

I look out upon the barren and dusty land.
There is little sign at all left from man.
This is said to once be a great city.
Not much in sight as far as I can see.
Here and there traces of ruins sticking up.
Like a giants fingers raising from the muck.
All around, the forest is closing in.
Soon, it will cover it all again.
Man’s time has come and gone.
There was a time when he was strong.
He ruled the world and all that was in it.
But, for mother earth, he didn’t give a sh–.
He became so arrogant he destroyed his race.
Very little reminders remain in any place.
The wind of change has covered all.
Man returned to dust after his fall.
Mother earth is returning to her glory.
The wind of change has done it for free.
Man is gone, but nature goes on.
Soon, another will sing their song.
I pray they learn from what’s left of man.
Try to realize what happened, if they can.
The chances of this are pretty slim.
The learning must come from within.
The only constant is the wind of change.
Be one with it, or you won’t remain.

A Home Away From Home

A Home Away From Home

We went to a new planet to check it out.
This is what our job is all about.
We have been to extremely hostile places.
Places we were sorry we showed our faces.
Exploration of earth like planets.
With future colonization, if the plan fits.
This planet was similar to the one in Avatar.
Except no dangerous beasts seen near or afar.
All animal life was very friendly.
Nothing was found to be called an enemy.
The intelligent life was humanoid in shape.
Friendly, a simple way of life, a harmony of fate.
All life was one, yet, each knew their own.
Life was respected by all, it was shown.
All life could connect mentally, even plant life.
That was why there was no fighting or strife.
They taught us how to ‘tune in’ mentally.
What an awakening!! ——Eventually,
We became one with all life that was there.
We would never harm even a hair.
The place was beautiful, wonders to behold.
Put the 7 wonders of earth to shame, I’m told.
We could NOT allow man to destroy paradise.
We marked this planet unfit. That was nice.
Yet, we would return. We called it home.
And so it will be for us who roam.
