A Swan’s Dilemma

      A Swan’s Dilemma

Two swans fly over a serene mountain lake.

They circle and decide to land, eat, & rest.

All they see are a few ducks. They are bait.

The swans ignore this, as you might guess.

They are rummaging around in the tulles.

Something to eat. Maybe some minnows.

Suddenly, a loud bang shakes the tulles.

The ducks take off like bugs out a window.

The swans take flight. The female swerves.

She is hit in the foot by a shotgun pellet.

Her mate flies close to steady her nerves.

Her foot is bleeding. They can smell it.

Soon, they are safely out of range.

They find a small creek in which to land.

The female is limping, due to the pain.

It looks like it will heal ok if given a hand.

Her mate helps her all he can with food & drink.

Why would anyone shoot poor innocent ducks?

Swans are protected. Collateral damage, they think.

We are birds. So are ducks.

We differ in looks and color.

Yet, we are the same. What a rut.

They will shoot one, but not another?

When will they give up this silliness.

Stop shooting us all and live in peace.

All it would take is a little willingness.

We all share this planet. It’s the very least.

Thinking Again Out Loud

      Thinking Again Out loud

I am sitting here thinking again.

About what I’ve done & where I’ve been.

If I had it all to do over again.

Would I do the same things then?

I know all I’ve said and done.

Asked for forgiveness when under sin’s thumb.

Yet, I wonder, if I had done things differently.

Taken a different job. Gone another way vigorously.

Gone with this girl instead of the other.

Been more caring & loving to my mother.

Thoughts that have little meaning.

Unless they affect your current leaning.

I am where I am because of my own choices.

They could have been different. Followed other voices.

But, I am who I am & I have to live with it.

Taken as a whole, I can learn & have a better fit.

Improve my self image for the better of all.

Even though I’ve answered the beckoned call.

There is much in life to understand.

It all is part of becoming a man.

Who you are reflects on how you will be remembered.

May people get a blessing, besides my defenders.

I feel my place is to try to be helpful.

Help others to understand themselves fully.

If not, to at least, bestow some care & comfort

No one needs to feel alone or shunned first.

All are sons and daughters of God.

Whether alive, or under the sod.

I want all to raise to everlasting life.

But, the choice is yours. Take it in stride.

Dreams Come True

      Dreams Come True

It keeps happening again and again.

Every time that she comes in.

She can brighten up any room.

Her beauty alone will make you swoon.

She came in the other day.

Asked me if I wanted to play.

I was so shocked I said ”No way!”

“Oops, I meant to say.”

“What is it you had in mind?”

“Are you only interested in a good time?”

“No, I mean, I didn’t mean it that way.”

‘This is what I meant to say.”

“We need one more for a foursome.”

“I know you play. I seen you score some.”

“Uhh, sure. What time do we start?”

“I will be happy to do my part.”

When the game started I was all thumbs.

I couldn’t have done worse if I had the runs.

She looked so good in that tennis outfit.

I was doing good just not to trip.

I apologized for doing so poorly.

She said I wasn’t any court king.

But, I did good enough for her.

this was a shock to me for sure.

“Well, would you like to get a snack?”

She said “Sure.” and that was that.

Before long I was jabbering away.

telling her about the other day.

She listened then added some of her own.

She talked about how bored she’d grown.

“Not with you, I mean life in general.”

“Why is that?” I hoped it sounded sentimental.

“People carry on about my beauty.”

“I personally don’t think I’m such a cutie.”

“I think of myself as an average girl”

“To be treated as such gives me a thrill.”

“You have always treated me this way.”

“I love it,—– is all I can say.”

I was shocked into silence.

I would have had nothing to say in my defense.

I think of her in every way she despises.

Silence is golden in this case with no reprises.

From there our friendship really bloomed.

I loved to walk with her & look at the moon.

Almost a year has gone by since then.

Many have wondered what she sees in him.

Meaning me. The luckiest one alive.

Here I am and I didn’t even try.—–R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

Into The Mirror

      Into The Mirror

They said to grandpa: “It is fun here.”

Grandkids,  visiting one summer.

It was an old colonial house.

Perfect for grandpa & his spouse.

A neat house for teens to explore.

It was still odd though, just like before.

There were no mirrors in the home.

They knew why, yet, they moaned.

“How could such a story be true?”

Grandpa said it was. “We’re not fools.”

One day the kids were exploring the basement.

Tom told his sister to be patient.

“We’ll check out everything here.”

They only saw one thing that was queer.

In the corner was a large steamer trunk.

Buried under a bunch of junk.

They uncovered it and took a look.

It wasn’t locked, only hooked.

They opened it & found old clothes.

They even found shoes with wooden soles.

Down in the bottom they found a mirror.

“There is barely room for it in here.”

Carefully, they lifted the antique out.

Propped it against the wall & looked about.

No one was there. Just the basement.

An antique frame, the mirror was encased in.

They looked into the mirror & got a shock.

They were there, but the basement was not.

They saw what looked like a castle wall.

They couldn’t believe what they saw at all.

Tom touched the mirror itself.

His hand went into the mirror, he felt.

“Becky, did you see that?”

“Yes, your hand went out of sight”

“No, it went right into the mirror.”

“Are you sure? That seems queer.”

“Remember the stories grandpa used to tell?”

“They said the mirrors were a door to hell.”

“Let’s go in & see what really is there.”

They both stepped into, who knows where?

They were in like a storage area in a castle.

They snuck down the hall without hassle.

They heard voices up ahead.

It was coming from a side room instead.

A man, who looked like a wizard.

Was speaking to one who looked like a lizard.

“Egore, the mirror spell is almost completed.”

“I think I have just what I needed.”

“The mirror will be our doorway to the future.”

“I will no longer have angry men after me.”

“No more villagers trying to kill me, see.”

“With my magical powers I will rule the future.”

“No more freeloaders. no more moochers.”

“Only problem, someone from there must

come through first to show they have trust.”

“Then our portal will never be closed.”

He then made an evil laugh through his nose.

“My descendants will pass down the mirror.”

“ 400 years must pass before there is anything to fear.”

Tom & Becky had heard enough.

They hurried back to the mirror in a rush.

They came bursting through.

Then tore upstairs to tell their grandpa too.

He said: “oh oh. I forgot about that mirror.”

“Now, where do we go from here?”

“I have an idea,” grandma said.

She put down her needle and thread.

She got the family Bible & a brass cross.

“We will rebuke this at any cost.”

At the mirror, they held them both in the air.

“God, rebuke this evil from here & everywhere.”

At first nothing changed.

Then, the mirror started smoking, in flames.

The stone walls inside started melting.

They heard a voice from within the hell scream.

“It’s on fire Egore, grab all you can bring.”

“I can’t save the mirror. I can’t get in the room.”

“Run for your life, or we are doomed.”

After awhile, the fire went out.

All was ash and blackened grout.

Then the scene snapped out of sight.

There was only a reflection of the basement light.

It now seemed to be an ordinary mirror.

They had stopped the evil. That was clear.

Grandpa took the mirror to the dump anyway.

He still doesn’t own any mirrors to this day.

Time Running Out

      Time Running Out

“Look at this world”, He cried in vain.

“This place is really in need of a change.”

“Tear it down. Start all over again.”

“Like Tobacco Row. It’s filled with sin.”

So went the meeting in heaven.

Angels reporting on all the sin.

The Trinity trying to cope with it all.

They knew, from the start, it would fall.

Meanwhile, on earth, the lovers talked.

Made future plans while they walked.

They thought they had heaven on earth.

They were blind to corruption from birth.

It never dawned on them how bad it was.

They didn’t know about heaven above.

About the war between God & Satan.

The universe watching because it hates sin.

But, The Holy Spirit strived with their hearts.

They wanted more than just to not part.

They felt something was missing in their lives.

One day they went to church and came alive.

Their eyes were opened to the world around.

They were astounded at what they found.

Soon, they gave their hearts to the Lord.

They spread the Word to all their hoard.

Heaven rejoices over even one saved.

In the balances, they are weighed.

The Trinity doesn’t give up hope.

“Hold the winds of strife,” they spoke.

So, time goes on just a little longer.

Time for each of us to grow stronger.

Stronger in our faith in God.

To choose. Choosing life is not odd.—-R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

The Outdoor Girl

      The Outdoor Girl

I have walked on the beach at the sea.

Remember when you walked with me?

I have hiked on the mountain trails.

That was where we heard the wails.

We were hiking for the day.

We went up the canyon way.

At the spot the wails were heard.

A sign there said “The Devil’s Herd”.

The wind makes the sound right there.

Blowing through the canyon, bare.

I have taken desert trips.

You missed out on some of this.

I hiked into Mystery Lakes.

You came to, we had what it takes.

It was not an easy trip.

It was about as rugged as it can get.

We have gone to Canada to hike.

Glacier Park was a real sight.

We have hiked the Pacific Coast Crest.

From Wa. to Ca., that was the best.

We have swam in mountain lakes.

Cold enough to freeze your aches.

We enjoyed all we did together.

We did it in almost all kinds of weather.

We shared this interest in life.

A good way to get rid of stress & strife.

We did many other things too.

Life was good for me and you.

How is it then that you left me?

For a city slicker who is never free.

She is always busy with her work.

She seems to only have time to smirk.

She is not the outdoor type.

You’re  stuck with this the rest of your life?

Where is the justice in this world?

A new beginning, I would herald.

But, what’s over is over & done.

Yes, while it lasted, it was fun.

I guess I will kiss the past goodbye.

And find myself some other guy.—–R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

Instant Relocation

      Instant Relocation

Awhile back I was in my car.

Taking a drive to a juice bar.

Suddenly, I didn’t know where I was.

Everything around began to fuzz.

I focused and checked my watch.

Date & time correct. They weren’t botched.

What the heck just happened to me?

I was lost, from what I could see.

Then I saw a road sign ahead.

I was about 60 miles from home, it said.

Somehow, I was instantly here.

No, I had not been drinking beer.

It took 1 ½ hours to drive home.

The whole thing shook me to the bone.

The next day it happened again.

I was only sent 15 miles away then.

One more time it happened that week.

To another near town. I was freaked.

It couldn’t be a memory lapse.

Not enough time had passed.

It did not happen on the weekend.

Seemed to be only during the week .

I had to talk to someone about it.

But, who. They will think I am a nitwit.

I finally decided on my pastor.

He was really shocked, to be sure.

He took it with a grain of sand.

He decided to be the man.

He said he would come & ride with me.

Monday he came over, just to see.

We drove out in my car.

We had not gotten very far.

Next thing, we were 25 miles away.

He was pale, with little to say.

When we got home he prayed with me.

He didn’t know what it could be.

This continued. I hoped it would end soon.

Then, there was an eclipse of the moon.

After that, it never happened again.

It started exactly 1 month before the eclipse.

Then, it never happened again after this.

No explanation was ever found.

I was always cautious driving around town.

Years later another eclipse was due.

I stopped driving 1 month before. Wouldn’t you?

A Way Out

      A Way Out

I’m going down. Buried deep in thought.

I keep thinking; ‘What have we wrought?’

What does man think he is doing?

All the fighting, killing, and undoing.

As we sink deeper into the cesspool of life.

Do we ever think about the pain and strife?

Have we ever thought; ‘There has to be a better way.’

Do we ever have doubts at the end of each day?

Man is stubborn, arrogant, spiteful, and mean.

As a race we lack a lot, or so it would seem.

The whole thing just doesn’t make sense.

For man’s behavior, I have no defense.

The only answer that even comes close.

It’s in the Bible, so none can boast.

This earth and it’s race is cursed with sin.

We are ruled by powers that work from within.

Is there evil? If yes, then there is good.

Are we ever on the side that we should?

We are only pones in a universal game.

One between Satan and God so one can claim.

I was right all along. Stay with me where you belong.

We don’t have a lot to say about how to choose.

We have ‘free will’, but if we choose wrong, we lose.

We need the knowledge of what is really going on.

Without this, we can never be strong.

What are the rules to this universal game?

If we know, would we play our part the same?

Most likely not, or so the Bible says.

Yet, most will still chose wrong. Why? I guess

it is due to a lifetime of conditioning by sin.

But, choosing right is the only way to win.

Choosing wrong will put an end to it all.

Everyone will remember the fall.

But, if you chose wrong you are gone.

You won’t care if the world goes on.

All thought has ended for you.

Those who chose right will continue to

praise God for saving them for eternity.

The whole universe will benefit, you see.

Sin will never raise again. We can be assured.

Do your part and follow The Word.

Recovery Form Being Dumped

      Recovery From Being Dumped

One man is mad, another cries.

One is vengeful, another lost.

One loves her so & really tries.

Another will get even at any cost.

The man who is dumped hurts deeply inside.

He may only show anger in his response.

Or, he may be so distraught he loses pride.

He may show nothing as a response.

But, deep down, the loss is felt.

Another scar on the heart.

It may not leave a visible welt.

But, his emotions are torn apart.

It hurts any man’s pride.

It is worse than a slap in the face.

You feel rejected. You can’t hide.

You are dejected and in disgrace

It is hard to recover without scars.

It will affect all further relations.

Someone you know or met in a bar.

A suffering self image affects elation.

Life is an emotional roller coaster landing.

To survive the ride & come out on top.

Takes great insight and understanding.

Both on your part and hers. Never stop.

Put every effort into every relationship.

Try to understand the others views.

Life is a learning situation trip.

Get the lesson right & it is great news.

The Miracle

      The Miracle

A miracle happened for me a few years ago.

I have been blessed since, I want you to know.

The miracle was the birth of my first child.

Not an easy thing because it took awhile.

He was a large baby and labor was long.

I wanted it over & my wife just wanted it gone.

She wanted the baby, she just wanted labor to end.

After 3 days, she was becoming unhinged.

Then, finally, the moment arrived.

I was there, watching with pride.

Then, to my greatest surprise.

I was looking  at the little guy.

He looked exactly like me.

I couldn’t believe what I could see.

It was the greatest blessing there could be.

To know I procreated a minnie me.

He turned out to be my pride and joy.

Extremely smart and real coy.

He has since grown into a man.

I am still proud and say it whenever I can.

He excels in every way I did not.

A chip off the old block, or just a knot.

He is someone who would make any father proud.

I love him and will yell it out loud.

What greater miracle could there be?

To procreate a minnie me.

Then have him turn out better than me.

Only one miracle is better than this.

When God gave his Son, He would miss,

for someone as wretched as me.

No greater love could there possibly be.
