The Wind And I

      The Wind And I

This is my life and all I have done.

It has been different, but lots of fun.

I have been called successful along the way.

Still, it was a struggle, day after day.

I have been profoundly deaf over half my life.

This has caused some problems and strife.

I overcame my hearing loss early on.

Before the last little bit was finally gone.

I used my many and various other senses.

Sight, touch, smell, and brains, not being defensive.

I compare my life to the wind all around.

Why?  Because, of itself, it has no sound.

Till it touches something where it is bound.

Then, all are aware of the wind, I’ve found.

I too, can’t ‘hear’ a recognizable sound.

But, by the people I’ve touched, I’ve found.

They are aware of me like they are the wind.

I try to stick to my principles and seldom bend.

The wind and I have made ourselves known.

By who and what we touch, it has been shown.

Wind, And More

      Wind, And More

Just one word will make it clear.

Something you can’t see or hear.

Unless it touches something.

You can feel it on your face.

But, that’s not all it takes.

It has to touch something.

You can see it in the trees.

When it shakes the leaves.

It has touched something.

You can hear it through the walls.

You hear the moan when It calls.

It just touched something.

When I’m gone, you will see.

This will be a lot like me.

I will touch something.

When you see it move.

You’ll know I am in the mood.

To touch something.

If you feel me touch your face.

If you feel my embrace.

Know I have touched someone.

If you hear what could be me.

Maybe then you will see.

I may be something.

Something one step beyond.

But, still felt, though I am gone.

Does that mean something??—————–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Footfalls In My Mind

Footfalls In My Mind

“Ring phone.”—-RING.

“One more time.”

“Come on”—- “Answer,

Crisis line.”

“Hello, —- thank God!

I’m glad you’re there.

You really gave me

quite a scare.”

“Remember me —-?”

“From yesterday?”

“I have to talk

some more today.”

“I feel I’m running

out of time.

I hear his footfalls

in my mind.”

“I don’t go out.

I cannot eat.

At night, I scream

myself to sleep.”

“I can’t sleep now,

though I’m in bed.

I hear his footfalls

in my head.”

“I know you think

he doesn’t exist.

But, I know different.

I’ve felt his fist.”

“He’ll come bustin

thru the door,

cuss me out an

call me a ‘whore’.”

“He’ll walk over

and slap my face.

Then, kick me all

around the place.”

“He’ll tie me nude

into a chair.

Then, run his fingers

thru my hair.”

“If I yell,

or act upset,

he’ll burn me with

a cigarette.”

“What happens next,

I can’t talk about.

But, —- I know

a sure way out.”

“I have a gun

with me in bed.

I’m going to shoot

him in the head.”

“Don’t say what

I shouldn’t do.

You don’t know

what I’ve been through.”

“Wait!! —-Listen,

I think he’s near.

I hear his footfalls

in my ears.”

“Hello, —- Hello.

“Are you still there?”

Nothing but, silence

in the air.

BANG!!

“Hello again. —-

Yeah, —- it’s me.

I said it would work.

Now, you can see.”

“’It’s the police’,

I think he said,

before I shot him

in the head.”

“Now, at last,

I can be free.

He’ll no longer

bother me.”

“I shot him good.

I know he’s dead.

But,? —- I hear

his footfalls in my head.”

BANG!!

“Hello!!, —- Hello!!

Are you still there?”

Only silence

in the air. ———————–R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

Can’t Take It Anymore

      Can’t take It Anymore

My patience is running mighty thin.

I am your whipping post again & again.

Drive another nail into my crucifixion.

But, I can’t redeem your sinful affliction.

Your tongue is like a nine pound sledge.

Breaking down my feeble hedge.

Defense mechanisms just won’t do.

When you come slamming your way through.

You leave me laying as a mental wreck.

A shell, my former confidence, a speck.

Destroyed, to never raise again.

Do you feel proud that you always win?

You are a mental vampire.

Making truth into a liar.

You would make even Dracula proud.

Your abilities stand out loud.

Others say “What’s the matter with you?”

“Why are you always acting the fool?”

“Letting her kick your heart around.”

“While you crawl on your belly, like a clown.”

Their observations are all right on.

I have groveled and it is wrong.

Time for me to walk like a man.

I am out of here as fast as I can.—————R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Imagination

      Imagination

My imagination is at the extreme.

The lunatic fringe to some, it may seem.

I dig deep into all levels of possibilities.

Never under estimate my abilities.

I can turn night time into day.

Make the bad guy run the other way.

Do magic with the wave of a wand.

Have two opposites form a bond.

Give extreme happiness to a forlorn lover.

Make a lonely girl become a mother.

Create a world for your wildest dreams.

Cause it to come apart at the seams.

Make your dreams come true.

I can make it so just for you.

I can save you from eternal damnation.

Or, have you burn in hell with elation.

Have you ever ridden a bike on a tight wire?

It can happen, if that’s your desire.

Do you want to be the first in deep, deep space?

Would you rather someone else take your place?

There is no limits to what I can do.

If I can imagine it, it can happen for you.

But, it will be on a written page.

I write poetry for every age.——————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Reminiscing

      Reminiscing

Remember when bullies were few & far between?

It just wasn’t in people’s nature to be so mean.

People have called them the good old days.

I guess they were good in their own ways.

A whole lot different than things are today.

People spoke up if they had something to say.

They didn’t worry about drive by shootings.

They were more concerned with their shoestrings.

Did they have cardboard for the holes in their soles?

Were their clothes washed & hung between poles?

Sabbath days were days to look forward to.

First to church, then maybe to the zoo.

Or, at least a picnic, if the weather was nice.

The whole family came. We ate every bite.

During the summer free movies were shown.

Downtown, in the park, for the kids & grown.

No matter if you walked to school or rode a bus.

It was plenty of fun for all of us.

Riding your bike to the local swimming hole.

Racing other kids with your dog in tow.

Staying up late to look at the stars.

Trying to tell which one was Mars.

Building forts and tree houses too.

Throwing spit wads while in school.

Numerous other fun things we did.

are much different than today’s kids.

We had no computers to play games on.

We made up games to play on the lawn.

We did use guns, but, only for hunting.

We didn’t think killing was a fun thing.

We didn’t have a lot of money or things.

We still got by. We thought we were kings.

We learned to love God and trust in him.

We knew if it was wrong it was a sin.

We knew to treat others like ourselves.

We didn’t believe in pixies or elves.

We just loved life & all it was worth.

WE loved & respected this place called earth.

The Little Knight Overcomes ‘Evil’

The Little Knight Overcomes ‘Evil’

The little knight was dreaming again.

Once again, the ‘evil’ was after him.

The little knight would make a stand.

“I will defeat this ‘evil’,— if I can.”

The little knight had no idea what to do.

The ‘evil ‘was after him. This he knew.

What exactly was this ‘evil’ thing?

Something in his mind began to ring.

Maybe the ‘evil’ was really sin.

It was coming after him.

But, everyone has to deal with sin?

There was only one way that he could win.

He surrendered himself to Christ.

He trusted God with all his might.

Then, suddenly, the ‘evil’ was there.

It seemed to be around him everywhere.

He held up a Bible and a crucifix.

Said “In the name of Jesus be gone quick.”

The little knight awoke with a jerk.

He was shaking & sweat soaked his shirt.

He knew exactly what he must do.

He knelt & prayed like in a pew.

He asked forgiveness for his sins..

He accepted the Lord as his God within.

After that his ‘nightmares’ stopped.

The ‘evil’ was gone from his thoughts.

The little knight praised the Lord day & night.

He was precious in the Lord’s sight.

The Mystery Solved

       The Mystery Solved

The little knight drew his sword.

He checked the oak door . A solid core.

But, it seemed to be unlocked.

He didn’t fly off half cocked.

He did step in ready to fight.

What he saw was a scary sight.

There stood a wizard with a long white beard.

The black clothes & cape with stars was weird. The wizard turned & saw the knight.

The wizard’s stare was a dreadful fright.

He said ”You dare to come here to my lair?”

“You will pay for this, I swear.”

“I will cause you to lose your job.”

“Next, will be your house. That’s not odd.’

“Your horse will be gone. Maybe your wife.”

“Don’t come closer or you’ll lose your life.”

“You will be in the soup line for your meals”

“They might drag you to jail by your heels”

The little knight was fuming at these words.

“I’ll put an end to you and yours!!”

The little knight screamed as he prepared to charge

The little knight awoke screaming.

Sheets were in a knot & he was leaning.

Bent way over off the bed.

Pain was running through his head.

“What happened?” his wife asked him.

The little knight was scratching his chin.

“It was an evil wizard is all I know”

“He was going to take it all. Even my soul.”

They had no idea what it meant.

They tried their best to forget the event.

Later that day the mail came.

A letter from the IRS in name.

It said we will be auditing you.

The little knight said “Looks like we are threw.”

“Now we know who the wizard is.”

“It’s the IRS and we are his.”

The Mystery Continues

      The Mystery Continues

The little knight was on his usual patrol.

Then something touched his very soul.

He started heading into unknown woods.

Should he go on? He didn’t know if he could.

This was way off his usual area to check.

He was nervous, but what the heck.

His job was to protect the realm

He kept things safe when at the helm.

The woods grew very dark & dense.

He never saw a single fence.

Then, up ahead, he saw the tower.

Nothing around but brambles & bowers.

It was a cold, dark, eerie place.

He felt a cold sweat on his face.

The tower was very high.

The top reached way up into the sky.

He searched all around for a door.

When he could almost search no more

he found what may be a way in.

Very fine lines on the outer trim.

Shaped like a small narrow door.

It extended down to the floor.

He used his blade to pry in a crack.

He heard a creak & he jumped back.

This narrow door swung in.

Thank God the little knight was thin.

He slipped into the doorway at last.

On the wall hung a torch held fast.

He lit the torch & went up the hall.

It was narrow space & not very tall.

It went round & round at a gradual slope.

Funny this place didn’t have a moat.

Only briers & brambles he cut through.

Why it was here, he hadn’t a clue.

He kept going on for a very long time.

It was becoming quite a climb.

The little knight felt that something was wrong.

How much longer could this climb go on?

Then he came to a thick oak door.

It had thick metal hinges, and more.

Light was shining under the door.

It was so bright it made his eyes sore.

The little knight could feel waves of evil.

It was flowing out like slippery eels.

The knight braced himself to rush in.

He awoke with a start.

He could hear the pounding of his heart.

His first such dream in years.

His wife was beside him almost in tears.

He had scared her with his trashing around.

She wanted to know where they were bound?

If he dreamed it usually meant trouble.

She didn’t want to burst his bubble.

But, what else could she think?

The little knight got water from the sink.

The little knight always did his part.

He fought evil from the start.

But, this dream was different, it seemed.

Neither of them knew what it could mean?

Return Of The Little Knight

      Return Of The Little Knight

The brave little knight’s life was good.

His girl was back with him, like she should.

After a few months time had passed.

The little knight dreamed again, at last.

He dreamed an evil force was after him.

Not just him but, the whole world then.

The little knight knew he should fight.

Somehow he knew it meant his life.

How to fight an evil he can’t describe.

All the while his girl was by his side.

the evil seemed to be hunting him down.

It would always appear without a sound.

The little knight was too brave to hide.

He would take on the evil tide.

He planned a place to fight the evil.

A ‘house of mirrors ‘ seemed ideal.

He went to the local boardwalk.

Into the ‘house of mirrors’, he did walk.

He waited for the evil to appear.

When it did it was really queer.

The evil cast no reflection of its own.

The little knight felt cold to the bone.

The knight made his presence known.

His reflection in a hundred mirrors shown.

But, the evil rushed right toward him!!

The little knight awoke all covered in sweat.

Would this evil finally get him yet??

Was it a nightmare or a clairvoyant  show?

The little knight just didn’t know.
