The Ways Things Happen

      The Way Things Happen

Ever talk about something that happened between you and her?

Did she seem to forget or have a different view, though she was there?

That’s the way things happen. You see things  differently than her.

it’s hard to progress in a relationship. From there we go to where?

We try and try to see eye to eye to no avail.

The distance between seems to grow rather than shrink.

Then we discuss the pros & cons via E-Mail.

It’s all laid out in black and white, yet she says your view stinks.

We decide to put it aside and start all over like it never happened.

We date, and enjoy each other’s company.

We may have to head our dates with a little caption.

This time she will have to agree. I’d bet money.

Then, an incident happens that didn’t go down well.

But, I’m sure she will agree with the way things went.

But, the way things happen, she has a tale to tell.

How can two people be involved in the same incident.

Yet, come away with two conflicting ways of looking at it.

But, that is the way the entire evening turned out.

She said black, I said white. It was enough to give me a fit.

“Is there a way for you to see my side” she began to pout.

This seems to be a mystery that can’t be solved.

It can only be worked around if you are to have a chance.

Is it heredity or upbringing that is involved?

Or, is it the fact that she wears a dress and I wear pants?

The Little Knight Finds Victory

      The Little Knight Finds Victory

The little knight was looking at the ads in the paper one day.

He saw an ad that said:  Assertive Training Classes start today.

The little knight said “that’s for me.”

He went straight there so he could see.

He signed up for the complete course.

He finished top in his class, of course.

That night the little knight had another dream.

He was one mean ass kicking  machine.

He found where the conniving beast was hiding.

the one who stole his girl without even trying.

He intended to get her back at any cost.

He would show the ‘beast’ who was boss.

The little knight caught them in an alley way.

The little knight said: “It’s time to play!!”

A tremendous battle took place that night.

The little knight easily won that fight.

The little knight said: “Now, you’re back with me.”

His girl fell into his arms & said: “Right where I want to be.”

The little knight awoke with a start.

This was the first dream since they had been apart

where the little knight had come out on top.

The assertive training had hit the spot.

He knew then just what he would do.

‘Beast’,—- I’m coming for you.

He went to his x-friend’s house.

Snuck up & peeked in, quiet as a mouse.

They were both there watching TV.

It might be the last thing they would see.

He beat on the door really hard.

Yelled at them “Come out in the yard.”

The little knight was super assertive and to the point.

He had the ‘beast’ wanting out of that joint.

The ‘beast’ was shaking in his boots.

Pleading for mercy. Yelling “Turn me loose.”

The ‘beast’ said he didn’t love her anyway.

He only tried to get her because he was jealous that way.

The ‘beast’ ran in and locked his door.

After he had yelled “She is only a whore.”

The little knight said to her: “I know that’s not true.”

“You were meant for me & I was meant for you.”

She flew into his arms apologizing all the while.

She said she only did it to make him stand up for her in style.

She said she wanted him to be more of a man.

She used to say: “Be more assertive. I know you can.”

The little knight said he could do that now.

Nothing nor no one will come between us now.

So ends the tales of the brave little knight.

Does he still dream?— Sometimes at night.

But, now,  he always wins every battle.

Rides away with his girl on the saddle.

From now on they will always say.

One brave little knight rides away.

Highstorm’s Revenge

      Highstorm’s Revenge

The stormwind is blowing. A highstorm is on the way.

The stormwall darkens. Lighting strikes starting to play.

We must find shelter. If not, we will die.

No one survives when the storm is high.

A highstorm comes every week or so.

From where they come no one knows.

There is much that we must learn.

To know such knowledge is all I yearn.

The magic buried deep in the ground.

The Spirit life that is all around.

You could be killed by plant or beast.

Not to mention highstorms from the East.

No one has returned that went East to see

where the highstorms came to be.

Their power exudes from precious stones.

Glowing bright , each color their own.

They give light to the world at night.

Things look scary in their eerie light.

All life is based on the power that thrives.

When a highstorm does arise.

The highstorm, itself, is always deadly.

But, after the storm, during the waning eddy,

there is power that fuels the magic here.

So strong and powerful that all should fear.

A few have tried to tap into it’s source.

But, few have managed to stay the course.

If I can just tap into that power.

I will rule the very hour.

I will take revenge on my x friend

who stole my girl; his life will end.

I will zap him into dust.

His armor won’t even have time to rust.

Suddenly he is startled by a boom.

Lightning flashed across his room.

The little knight had been dreaming again.

About how to get even with his friend.

The dream was gone but, the aching went on.

How much longer will this go on.

Revenge At Last

      Revenge At Last

Finally, his day had come.

The little knight would be the one.

He stood before his massive army.

He said ”They will never harm me”

“They will harm no one again.”

“For today victory is ours.” “ WE WILL WIN.”

The leader of the enemy army was “him.”

The one who had stolen his girlfriend.

For years, he had hunted them down.

Hoping just to crush the clowns.

Once “he” had been his best friend.

Till “he” stole his girlfriend.

Now they both will be put down.

Buried deep within the ground.

The horn was blown. The charge began.

They stood strong man to man.

Dust, screams, blood, and bodies fell.

Each man fought like they were in hell.

The little knight was feeling sick.

Suddenly he was vomiting in a bedpan.

Sweating, he tried to steady his hand.

He was very sick with the flu.

Three days now that he knew.

Even while deathly sick.

He still had dreams of ending it.

Will he ever get over losing her.

He just didn’t know for sure.——————R.W. Johnson——(2011)

Little Knight Dreams Again

      Little Knight Dreams Again

The brave little knight had a job to do.

Clean up the town for me and you.

the word he wanted had finally come down.

They were holed up in the town.

He had dreamed of this day for years.

The thought of victory brought him tears.

The one who once was his best friend.

Till he stole his love from him.

The travesty had broke his heart.

He swore revenge that night in the dark.

The two lovers were still together.

Once they were gone he’d feel better.

He planned his attack for  that night.

Until then he kept them in his sight.

He would take them out together.

the more they begged the better.

Then, suddenly he came wide awake.

Another dream leaving it’s ache.

How much longer must he suffer this loss?

He had to get even no matter what cost.

Day Mares

      Day Mares

The brave little knight was on the move.

His shining armor sparkled as he moved.

He crept along from bush to tree.

Moving closer so he could see.

From his perch upon a knoll

he could see the home of the troll.

The troll that stole his love away.

Revenge would be his today.

He would wait till dark to make his move.

His anger itching to be soothed.

The nasty troll was his best friend.

He thought he would be till the end.

Till the day he stole his love.

He vowed by all the Gods above.

He would get them for what they did.

After darkness,  down the hill he slid.

As he approached he laughed within.

He would catch them in their den.

As he got ready to break in the door.

“Dinner is ready” called his mother.

He was in bed under the covers.

He had been dreaming again.

Will this nightmare ever end?—————–R.W. Johnson—–  (2011)

Halloween Haunting

      Halloween Haunting

Day after day

I passed by the Vineyard Country Inn.

I cannot say

what  it was that made me stop in.

This Inn was old.

It had been deserted for years.

Today, I felt bold.

Probably courage helped by a few beers.

As I drew near

the Inn itself seemed to coax me on.

With a hint of fear

I felt like turning & ‘color me gone’.

But, I went on.

I stepped on the porch and heard a squeal.

I stopped still.

I was ready to spin on my heel.

I had no will.

Then, I saw the step made the squeal.

I tried the door.

With a shudder it opened with a squeal.

There, on the floor.

Was odd looking tracks as if made by a wheel.

A mystery to see.

Like made by a unicycle rode by a clown.

What could it be?

There was no sign of anyone around.

Should I go in?

Should I leave this place, never to return?

Curiosity won again.

My desire to solve this mystery burned.

I go inside.

The single wheel track goes to the left.

Stepping with pride,

I follow the trail that might lead to death.

Near the wall

I find a deep dish pizza pan upside down.

But, that’s not all.

The pan said: PIZZA HUT  We deliver all over town.

Halloween Games

      Halloween Games

It was a foggy trick or treat night.

We stayed close to keep in sight.

The night had been good to us so far.

We had enough candy to fill a car.

Just one more house up ahead.

The one that was haunted, people said.

It was the mansion behind the cemetery.

To say it was spooky was quite contrary.

We were a little slow with our approach.

The lawn was thick like walking on mulch.

After a double dog dare I banged the knocker.

We heard a squeak like a broken down rocker.

Then, the sound of feet shuffling along.

If we weren’t so scared we would have been gone.

We heard a deadbolt being thrown.

Then we heard another moving with a grown.

Slowly the door creaked as it was opened.

A dark figure stood there and hadn’t spoken.

A woman in black with a hood over her head

stood facing us . She smelled like she was dead.

She looked down and I saw her face.

She looked like a witch with skin like paste.

“Trick or treat” we stammered out.

Our bags were shaking that we held out.

“So, you wanna play a trick on ole Joyce”,

she said with a high scratchy voice.

“No mamm, it’s Halloween” I managed to say.

She said” Well, come on in. I have a game we can play.”

“If you win you will get a treat.”

“If you lose I will get something to eat.”

She pulled us in & slammed the door with a cackle.

“Go in to my parlor now before it’s midnight.”

“That’s the bewitching hour when we ‘treat’ kids right.”

We were all too scared to worry about loot.

We were almost peeing in our boots.

“The game goes like this. Three of you get 3 guesses.”

“That’s one guess each. Don’t make any messes.”

“You have to guess my name.”

“If you do you win the game.”

“You are first. Let’s hear your guess?”

“Joyce?” Joey said in a voice that was his best.

“Wrong” she yelled. “I knew that would lead you astray.”

She looked at Peter to see what he’d say?

“Rumplestiltskin” he finally gasped out.

She roared with laughter shaking all about.

“Nice try kid but, that’s strike two.”

Looking at me she said “Now, I want to hear from you.”

I happened to see an envelope sitting on a stand.

I remember the name printed on it by hand.

Along with the address of this place.

I took a chance and said to her face.

“You’re Ms. Haddie Hinklebow”

Her eyes opened big and she stared with a scowl

“Now, how did you know that?.” she asked.

“I saw a letter as I went by” I gasped.

She shook her head and said “You win.”

She gave each of us a sack of candy and gold .

She said “Come again next year if you are bold.”

We ran like hell and never went back.

Years later we include the story in our  Halloween  sacks

The Little Knight / The Little Knight Strikes Back

      The Little Knight

Deep into the canyon

with rugged pinnacles above,

the narrow trail went on.

A sliver of gray, angry sky above.

Soon it would be dark all around.

The canyon walls closed together.

Onward went the lonely, little knight.

Not stopping for food, drink, or weather.

Finally, he reached a narrow strip of land

With a very small stream in the center.

The canyon walls were 20 feet apart

In this valley he dared to enter.

Why come here? Where no one lived.

No sign of life on land or in the water.

He came here for one reason only.

To find the one who finally got her.

He hears his name being called.

He realizes he is in his room.

Another day staring at the wall.

Since she left him for that buffoon.———-R. W. Johnson——(2005)

      The Little Knight Strikes Back

The lonely little knight headed into the cave.

There was someone here for him to save.

This was the dragon’s den.

The dragon was one time friends with him.

Then, the dragon stole his soul mate away.

Now, it was time to make him pay.

He crept along the narrow passage.

Feeling like he was entering a fast cage.

How could the dragon do this to him?

He had once called him best friend.

He cautiously peeked around a stalagmite.

There they were within his sight.

She was sitting on his knee.

What a sight for him to see.

He made ready to make his charge.

A car horn honking made him look up.

He was sitting there, a pain in his gut.

He was at a bus stop just sitting.

Day tripping again about—-getting,

getting even—– with them both————–R. W. Johnson—-(2005)

Some Halloween Fun

      Some Halloween Fun

Eney meany miny mo.

You keep saying to take it slow.

It’s been over two years now.

If that’s not slow then tell me how.

Inka dinka dinka doo.

You know how much I love you.

Do you love me just as much?

Is this relationship built on trust?

Abra kadabra. Holy hey.

I called you up the other day.

You said you were down with the flu.

Friends of mine said they saw you.

Eye of newt. Leg of spider.

I’m not wanting to start a fight here.

Just tell where this all is going.

Do I stay or should I be rolling?

Ghosts & goblins & scary things.

It’s the scariest relationship I’ve ever seen.

Just like “Spooky” in the song.

What the hell is going on?

“Trick or treat”

Yelled everyone as I came down the street.

“We were having some Halloween fun.”

“Your girl said you’re the only one”

Black cats and witch’s brew.

Now I feel just like a fool.

I put it behind me as we made love.

In the woods with a full moon above.——–R. W. Johnson—–(2011)
