Thinking Back

             Thinking Back

A simple time, a simple place.

It brought a smile to my face.

Thinking back when I was a kid.

Pressures now will flip your lid.

Back then, things were better.

No computers. We wrote letters.

I can remember my first kiss.

Now, what made me think of this?

Probably what I saw on T.V.

It was quite vulgar, you see.

Not a simple childhood kiss.

For that, I am not remiss.

There is no way to go back.

Or, I’d be there. It’s a fact.

I didn’t know what I had back then.

I do now.—– Let me begin.

I wouldn’t trade those times for the world.

The memories are great. They have held.

Nothing like being able to reminisce.

Thinking back on doing the twist.

Watching American Bandstand on T.V.

Listening to the old songs. You and me.

We always knew Father Knows Best.

My Little Margie knew the rest.

Hi Yo Silver was the weekend cry.

Along with The Cisco Kid and I.

Cartoons were funny, not gory.

Servicemen got all our glory.

We were kids just having fun.

None of us had to carry a gun.

Violence was for boxing.

And Texas Wrestling. Not mocking.

Just saying things were better then.

I think it’s time we make amends.

The Owl And I

                    The Owl And

When young, I was on my way to school.

I saw an owl in a tree. He said woo!!

I stopped and said “My name is Sam.”

Now that you know who I am,

who are you? He just said woo!

I was wondering what am I to do?

When all the bird says is woo!

He flew away right after that.

But, the next day, he was back.

Again, I heard him say woo!

I told him who I was too.

Are you saying woo is your name”

He said woo again. Was it a game?

Then he turned his head way around.

Doesn’t that hurt?” I said with a frown.

He fluffed his feathers and shook his head.

But, woo was all he ever said.

Soon, he flew away again.

Flying high on the wind.

Next day, he was there, as usual

If he wasn’t, it would be unusual.

I said woo! before he did.

I thought he would flip his lid.

He just looked with big ole eyes.

Shook his head as if to say ‘nice try.’

I tossed him a piece of apple.

He hopped down like going for a rat hole.

He grabbed the apple and returned to the tree.

Then, he gobbled it up real fast, you see.

He said woo! one more time.

Then flew away to see what he could find.

After that, it was a morning routine.

For me not to have an apple would be mean.

Soon, he was taking  it from my hand.

Sometimes, on my arm, he would land.

That day came when I was crossing the street.

I didn’t see the car rushing toward me. Screech.

The owl hit me in the back.

Knocking me out of the car’s track.

The owl had saved my life that day.

For that, I give thanks when I pray.

We remained friends till he started a family.

An old barn, outside of town, was their shanty.

I still see him now and then.

I give him apple because we are friends.

There Is Hope With Grace

      There Is Hope With Grace

I took a trip to my hometown.

All I wanted was to look around.

I couldn’t believe all that I saw.

It seems my town has taken a fall.

It’s like Sodom and Gomorrah.

If your ‘normal’, people ignore ya.

You must be gay and go all the way.

Be ready for any type of play.

This kind of stuff is not for me.

Only one thing, I gotta flee.

For sure, I will not be looking back.

No pillar of salt. That’s a fact.

The country life is for me.

Walk around and feel free.

Church each week to stay in line.

Always keep God on my mind.

Pray for those who are truly lost.

Suffer them, at any cost.

Except for the grace of God, go I.

Any less and I’d rather die.

There is a major work to do.

It’s too much for me or you.

But, with the power of God to help,

any heart will be brought to melt.

The blinders will fall away.

They will be reborn that day.

No Way, But Up

           No Way But Up

I know that look on your face.

You have failed in every case.

All you’ve tried falls apart.

Even love led to a broken heart.

No happy sunsets for you.

Just one more night to go through.

I would say you’re down and out.

All you do is sit and pout.

No clouds with a silver lining.

Nothing nice to  be reminding.

Life has been a one way street.

Nothing special or unique.

You have thought of ending it all.

That step might be your biggest fall.

No where now to go, but up.

It is hard. Like driving a truck.

Get down and knuckle under.

The sound of that is like thunder.

Roaring in your head so loud.

You can’t lose yourself in a crowd.

John Cena says never give up.

It takes a lot more than luck.

It takes hard work. Never give in.

In the end, you will win.

Put a smile on that face.

You can never be a disgrace.

You have brains, health, and good looks.

Just like written in a book.

Look ahead to the final chapter.

The ending is great. No crap here.

It is the book of your life.

You can write the ending without strife.

Go for the gold. Do your best.

Put those negative thoughts to rest.

Remember, no matter what you do.

The final results are up to you.

The Valley Of The Damned

       The Valley Of The Damned

He came back home all excited.

Come with me. Don’t fight it.”

Let’s go on a little hiking trip.”

Something to show you that will be a hit.”

We packed up and went on our way.

3 of us, and a dog named Stray.

We were hiking through the woods.

Whatever it is had better be good.

We finally reached a high ridge & stopped.

He got binoculars to look from this spot.

Soon, he gave the binoculars to me.

Take a look. Tell me what you see.”

A valley with trees, lake, and a river.”

What don’t you see.” He said with a quiver.

What do you mean?” I asked him.

No sign of  man.” He said on a whim.

A pristine valley where no one is.”

He said it like it was a quiz.

Doesn’t that seem strange to you?”

Maybe, but what’s this leading to?”

Let’s go down and look around.”

There must be something to be found.”

We headed down a deer trail.

It kept going down, without fail.

Then, it veered to the left and started back up.

I got a funny feeling in my gut.

Why does that deer trail turn off?”

It should have gone on down.” I coughed.

I don’t know. Let’s keep going down.”

Soon, we saw a bare spot on the ground.

As we went by we all felt a chill.

A mild jolt. Not much of a thrill.

What was that weird feeling?”

I have no idea” the others said, reeling.

Look, Stray won’t go past that spot.”

I’ll get him.” I didn’t like it a lot.

I had the same weird feeling.

I grabbed the dog. He was squealing

I picked him up to carry him back.

At that spot he began  to yap.

I passed over as quick as I could.

Once past, he was acting like he should.

We had no answers, so kept on going.

We reached the river, with water flowing.

We followed the river up the valley floor.

It looked as vacant as it did before.

Then, up ahead, we saw a small town.

There was absolutely no one around.

I could see this spot from the ridge.”

There was nothing here. Not even a bridge.”

We started exploring the town.

Who are you” We jumped & turned around.

A shaggy man in his 70’s stood there.

He seemed to come right out of nowhere.

We are just hikers looking around.”

Do you live here in this town?”

Yes, I am the only one left.”

“Once I’m gone, there will only be death.”

˜Just like it told us years ago.”

I was the youngest. I’ll be the last to go.”

What are you saying?” We hadn’t a clue.

O.K., I’ll tell the story to you.”

He told us 65 years ago it came.

An alien, a beast, a monster by name.

It spoke and said it needed this valley.

About 100+ lived here & we did rally.

It said it had something to do.

I will return, but not for you.”

By then, it said we would all be dead.

We would die of old age, it said.

It said it felt kindly today.

So it wouldn’t kill anyone right away.

It said a barrier will isolate us here.

There is no escape, I fear.”

We can live out our days.

We couldn’t reproduce in any way.

When it gets back we would all be dead.

Don’t think I am talking out of my head.”

I was 10 when it was here.”

I am now 75, I fear.”

When I am gone it will come”

Where did you boys come from”

Outside the valley. There was no barrier.”

There was a spot that felt weird there.”

I said “Apparently, the barrier is failing.”

We had better get out while it is ailing”

We packed him up and headed out.

Back out on the very same route.

We came to the spot that was weird.

The barrier was right here.” He feared.

I carried Stray across and the others went too.

The same weird feeling. We hadn’t a clue.

A short distance away, the old man stopped.

I was afraid of this” He said, shocked.

Then, he disappeared right before our eyes.

We knew for sure, his story wasn’t lies.

Later, after we all got home.

We all knew we weren’t alone.

But, we never spoke of it to any man.

We never went back to The Valley Of The Damned.

What Goes Around Comes Around

     What Goes Around Comes Around

The time for you has finally come.

Time to confess what you have done.

You have dodged the bullet long enough.

There is no where you can run.

You feel the bottom fell out for you.

There is nothing else that you can do.

You’re a diamond still in the rough.

But, you have been acting like a fool.

Oh, oh, it is coming down.

It is falling all around.

The sunsets are turning gray.

Nothing left, except to pray.

There is no longer a way out.

Should have taken a different route.

It is hard to take all the blame.

It will really put you to shame.

Is there anything to be done??

You were not the only one.

I remember the day, oh, so well.

Wrong choice made.. Who could tell?

Once it’s made, you can’t turn back.

After that your life is hell.

You want to go back again.

Try not to make that sin.

Shouldn’t have went to that shack.

There is no way now to win.

A Goal In Mind

              A Goal In Mind

Yes, I’m coming around again.

I thought you were more than a friend.

We have to try to work this out.

My feelings are hurt, without a doubt.

Why this happened no one knows.

Around and around and around it goes.

We were, are, and always will be friends.

If we go beyond that, it all depends.

If you forgive me, let’s give it a try.

You couldn’t find a better man than I.

After all, we have nothing to lose.

I’m not putting my neck in a noose.

I am not out to hurt or rip you apart.

Let’s make all that clear from the start.

We can be friends and gradually grow closer.

I don’t want it to be like a roller coaster.

Just go with the flow and see where it leads.

Sometimes we can’t see the forest for the trees.

Time together is always a pleasure.

Being with you has become a treasure.

If it is to be,—– it will become.

As for me, you’re the only one.

But, it takes two to tangle.

When you’re ready, we will mangle.

For, two can become as one.

Give it time. It will be fun.

A Halloween Chiller

        A Halloween Chiller

It was unreal, but it was true.

Something is coming after you.

Something wicked this way comes.

It is coming for more than fun.

True, it was Halloween that night.

It was time for fight or flight.

He had nightmares about it.

They were as bad as they could get.

He told the others that it was coming.

He said they all had best start running.

What are you talking about?”

They wanted to believe him, but had some doubt.

Something wicked this way comes”

You been reading too much for fun”

You have let it go to your head”

I have nightmares when in bed”

Just relax,—- it will go away”

Soon, it will be another day”

They continued their trick or treating.

Always leery of who they were meeting.

Then, they heard the noise in the graveyard.

The nightmares. This was its play yard”

The other kids were nervous now.

They decided to hurry along somehow.

They kept looking over their shoulders.

Something smelled like death, not clovers.

They heard the noise again, much closer.

They kept walking. It was getting colder.

They couldn’t see it, but knew it was there.

A breeze came up blowing their hair.

They thought something was touching their necks.

They took off running like heck.

Back home, they were still on edge.

They kept hearing something in the hedge.

None of them slept at all that night.

They were ready for fight or flight.

In the morning, all seemed normal.

Should they walk to the graveyard, or no?

They all knew they had to go.

They approached, ducking really low.

They found nothing wrong there.

Except an open grave, which was bare.

They knew what happened was real.

Very uneasy is how it made them feel.

Next Halloween,  they would stay home.

No more being chilled to the bone.

Acheron; An Age Before Time

       Acheron; An Age Before Time

The young explorers were in a cave.

They all agreed, they would be brave.

They accidently discovered the entrance.

Opened by tree roots was the incident.

Roots caused a huge stone to roll away.

They spotted it behind the brush that day.

The cave was extremely ancient for sure.

After a while, something odd did occur.

A section of cave seemed to light up.

Not caused by fungus, or other stuff.

Why it was lit up couldn’t be determined.

That was only a small part that concerned them.

There was a small city in the cavern.

Ancient beyond what they could fathom.

They found ancient symbols around.

They copied all of them they found.

Much later, they would decipher them.

Not even sure they were written by men.

Acheron was the name of the city.

How they vanished was a real pity.

This age was ruled by powerful magic.

The positive and negative results were tragic.

Magic from the dark side and from the light.

They used both for all it’s might.

The end result was total annihilation.

Finding this out caused mild elation.

Many scrolls and books were found.

Years of work translating, they were bound

to  expose Acheron’s tragic history.

They understood all the mysteries.

This age existed prior to the Bible Genesis.

Acheron, an age not meant to exist.

So much more the 3 wanted to know.

All was destroyed except this show.

Built underground, it withstood time.

Though any life, they didn’t find.

They kept their discovery to themselves.

They found the books with the magic spells.

They debated trying some, or not.

The results they saw made them stop.

There had to be a way to use it for good.

If they could do this, they would.

The 3 spent years searching for an answer.

It became an obsession, like a cancer.

Finally, they thought they had a plan.

Dark and light must be separated, if they can.

The two forces together destroyed the Acheron age.

Taken separately, they might come into play.

Did they dare to proceed with what they had found?

That is a story for any who might still be around.

They said “We’ll never know unless we try.”

But, then again, they just might die.

How Legends Are Made

       How Legends Are Made

The glassy eyes was a definite clue.

To challenge him would take a fool.

He is high,—– but not on drugs.

He can dominate any thugs.

He is skilled in all  fighting arts.

He can easily rip you apart.

The best there is, was, or will ever be.

Enemy’s are smart if they just flee.

Trained from birth, or even before.

18 hour days, say all the lore.

No days off for any reason.

To do less would be treason.

It all came down to this very day.

He entered the arena, as if to stay.

He will fight for the freedom of his people.

It will be shouted from the highest steeple.

If he wins they will be left alone.

If he loses, they will become unknown.

Forever slaves to the taskmasters.

Such a fate would be a disaster.

The horn was blown, the fight began.

He moved like he wasn’t a man.

Defeating easily all who they sent in.

He knew only one thing. That was to win.

His final challenge was the 5 greatest.

Fight them all at once. This was the latest.

The rules changed when they saw he was winning.

Bring them on he thought, while grinning.

His muscles rippled with the strain.

Yet, he moved like a man insane.

They couldn’t lay a hand on him.

There was no doubt that he would win.

That’s exactly what he did that day.

Won freedom for his people all the way.

He became a legend in his own time.

He paid none of it any mind.

He was only interested in just one thing.

The love of his life. He gave her a ring.

For them the story had just begun.

Thanks to the fact that he had won.
