I Want To Know More

      “I Want To Know More”

“I want to know more”

I told my teacher in grade school.

She looked at me & said

“I would like to have more students like you.”

“I want to know more”

I said to the selective service sergeant.

He looked at me and said

“We need more solders like you.”

“I want to know more”

I said as I stood at the marital alter.

The preacher looked at me & said

“All you need to say is I do.”

“I want to know more”

I said to my wife as she walked out the door.

She looked at me and said

“I was a fool when I said I do.”

“I want to know more”

As I prayed to God wondering where I went wrong.

God looked down on me and said

“I am here my son until the end.”

“I want to know more”

I asked God again as I breathed my last.

God looked down, smiled & said

“Come to me.” ” Welcome home my friend.”

Thoughts Of You

      Thoughts Of You

You’re a living walking dream.

You’re the best I’ve ever seen.

Oh God – – – I wanted you.

I often wondered what I’d do

If I could give myself to you.

Oh God – – – I wanted to.

Then, one day, the chance arrived.

Fate had brought me by your side.

Oh God – – – Now what to do?

I took a chance when I touched you.

I rubbed your back and cuddled to you.

Oh God – – – I wanted to.

Since that day my life has changed.

No more sadness. No more pain.

Like a bird when it’s in flight.

My heart has soared to a new height.

You’re still a living, walking dream.

The best wife I’ve ever seen.

Oh God – – – I know it’s true.

Now, I know just what I’d do.

Cause I can give myself to you.

Oh God – – – I do love you.

My heart cries out with such delight.

I pray you’ll always be my wife.

Oh God – – – I want you to.

If there’s one who’s going to be

With me throughout eternity.

Oh God – – – Let it be you.———————–R. W. Johnson—–(1994)

The Home Coming

      The Home Coming

She was a girl living on her own in the city.

I saw her as a flower blooming very pretty.

I made an effort to get to know her.

Before long I grew much bolder.

I asked her out and love grew from there.

Then word came which we could hardly bare

I had to leave for an indefinite time.

We cried. I said everything would be fine.

I’d send money. She could move away.

She wanted into a country home to stay.

Eventually, this dream came true for her.

She bought a home. A cozy one, for sure.

She continued to wait with much concern.

The time was near for my return.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.

She was a country girl at heart.

She loved to sit before the hearth.

Feel the warmth coming from the fire.

As she dreamed of her desire.

She was faithful as she waited patiently.

Knowing I would be coming home to see

our new home where we would be together.

Our love will grow, no matter the weather.

She knew I didn’t want to leave.

It was impossible to even conceive

of being apart for such a lengthy time.

It was so hard it was almost a crime.

But, it all would be over soon.

All the waiting would heal like a wound.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.———————R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

High Flyer

      High Flyer

You shot me down & I fell from the light.

You thought I would fall from sight.

Gone—living in misery

without you near me.

But, I have risen , like the bird of flight,

the Phoenix. I have risen to a new height.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kit can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

She has your charms, but, not your gile.

She always greets me with a smile.

Be it lengthy or for only awhile.

For time with her, I’d walk a mile.

She has the charms of spring in bloom.

Her lovely eyes just make me swoon.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kite can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Like a night bird in its flight.

She showed me how to fly at night.

She taught me how to fly in the day.

To her, it’s all a game to play.

But, she is serious when it comes to love.

That’s why I can soar high above.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kite can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.———————R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

Angelic Visions

      Angelic Visions

Going down to the town.

Going just to look around.

A lot that’s old. Nothing new.

That’s till I got a look at you.

My heart pounded real fast.

My foot slipped off the gas.

I almost ran off the road.

My brain was twitching like a toad.

I pulled over to catch my breath.

You were the one. My mind was set.

I began to make great plans.

I would make you mine, if I can.

How to start, I wasn’t sure.

All I knew is you were the cure

for a heart doing cartwheels.

Only a lover knows how it feels.

I looked up and you were gone.

Where did you go? I can’t go on.

You must be close. I’ll look around.

Try as I might, you couldn’t be found.

Were you an angel that I saw?

Or my imagination having a ball?

I doubted then that you were real.

I had to stay on an even keel.

I had a drink & headed for home.

Guess I will remain all alone.——————-R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

Tell Me Why?

      Tell Me Why?

Sometimes you can be so sweet.

Then you can be just so discreet.

Tell me why?

You tell me “Let’s go see a show.”

Then you say that you have to go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Often, you tell me that I’m your man.

Then, when I call, you have other plans.

Tell me why?

You say you love having me around.

Next you’re nowhere to be found.

Tell me why?

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

You say to take you at your word.

You tell me not to be so absurd.

I want to know.

Then you’re lovingly sweet.

You sweep me off my feet.

I want to know.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Tell me true. Is there another man?

Why won’t you tell me, if you can?

I need to know.

You say to trust you. It’s for the best.

Why can’t you tell me? Why must I guess?

I need to know.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Tell me why?—Tell me, tell me, tell me why??

Transformation

      Transformation

Here is the story of a foul little piglet boy.

When he acted dumb he thought it was coy.

He made noises and burped and farted.

He jumped around and acted retarded.

Other kids didn’t want him around.

Because he was always acting the clown.

This made him worse so he acted about 3.

Oh, what a great baby, was he.

He often got beat up for such behavior.

But, his behavior did not waver.

Till one day he met a girl.

Not just anyone, but one with a curl.

He fell hard and his behavior changed.

From his foul behavior, he refrained.

He acted like a young gentleman.

All stopped thinking he was mental then.

Seems he was decent and so refined,

when he was around others didn’t mind.

The girl with the curls took notice too.

Instead of acting like he belonged in a zoo,

he acted courteous and polite.

Being kind to her was his delight.

So ends the story of the piglet boy.

Who changed his ways and became a joy.—-R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

Happiness Found

      Happiness Found

I came into town with a back pack on my shoulders

and a pocket full of stories that I just had to tell.

You know I’ve knocked  around a bit

and had my share of small town glories.

It’s time to hit the city

and that crazy carousel.

I’ve been thinking now for so long.

I’m tired of  going nowhere but,

I just keep moving on.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You gave me happiness just one time.

It  keeps on coming back again and again.

You know when your heart is nowhere.

Then you’ve got no place called home.

So you keep on searching for somewhere.

Yet, you’re still just all alone.

It’s time to lay my feet down,

away from Lonely Street.

New adventures are somewhere.

As From day to day I see.

All the people going nowhere.

But, anywhere’s  a better place to be.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You brought me happiness just one time.

It keeps on coming back again and again.

These roads were never my roads

These highways and  the byways.

They were just a way for me

to drift from town to town.

I never thought  I’d find

someone who could love me.

Till finally you were found.

I thought I’d drift forever

In my anguish and my leathers.

Always moving on  but, really nowhere bound.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You gave me happiness just one time.

It keeps on coming back again and again.

End Of My Rambling Ways

      End Of My Rambling Ways

I’ve always been a wayfaring wanderer.

Rambling back and forth across this land.

I’ve never wanted to settle down.

I’m just a fun loving traveling man.

Then I met that little gal.

Way down in Abilene.

She made my heart skip a beat.

As pretty as a beauty queen.

She looked my way and I was hooked.

I knew my rambling days were through.

But, it was more than just her looks.

My mama didn’t raise no fool.

She had the charms and manners of class.

Yet, she could talk to me like an average Joe.

She was intelligent and well versed.

Yet, never made me feel stupid or low.

I stayed around and we dated some.

We fit together like a hand in a glove.

I knew that I had found my soul mate.

Friends said, go ahead and ask her, with a shove.

I proposed and the rest is history.

She is my woman. She is my life.

I gave up my rambling ways.

Just to make this woman my wife.————-R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

Destined For Eternity

      Destined For Eternity

She’s all alone on a stormy night.

He’s in bed, not feeling right.

She drives her car down to the mall.

He gets up and makes a call.

She sits in her car for awhile.

Time for dinner, he thinks with a smile.

He gets dressed and goes to the mall.

She trips on the curb, about to fall.

He catches her and helps her stand.

So starts a romance as he takes her hand.

She joins him for dinner They talk a lot.

Both of them seem glued to their spot.

They walk around then take in a movie.

Both of them feel it’s really groovy

When they leave they make a date.

She says “Be on time & don’t be late.”

After four months of dating, they finally bond.

She moves in and they find they are fond

of pretty much the same things.

The rightness of it really rings.

In time he asks the question.

She accepts without exception.

Many years later, in their golden years,

they think back and reflect with tears.

She was kept from falling off the curb.

But, fell into his life without a word.

They had a family and happy times.

They remained in love. A love that binned.

Neither thought they would find one another.

They became a husband a wife a dad & a mother.

Now, they look forward to eternity.

Just him and her and God makes three.——R. W. Johnson—-(2011)
