Overcoming Fear Of Others

Overcoming Fear Of Others

I was raised in a very isolated area.
I rarely saw people, other than family.
I was 21. Strangers caused hysteria.
I knew that it wasn’t very manly.
I was hunting one day far from home.
Just my dog and I. we went West.
I knew that we were all alone.
Then, we ran into a hornet’s nest.
I accidently stirred them up pretty bad.
I was running as fast as I could.
But, the hornets were pretty mad.
They stung me, even under my hood.
I stumbled and fell down a slope.
Knocked myself out against a tree.
I woke up to the smell of smoke.
My eyes were puffy. I could barely see.
A stranger, a girl, held smoke in her hand.
The smoking brand chased the hornets away.
She said “I’ll try to help you all I can.”
“You were stung many times, I must say.”
“Your dog led me to you.”
“I would have never seen you otherwise.”
“Good thing, the hornets still weren’t through.”
“I put salve on your stings. I apologize.”
“But, I know it helps with pain and swelling.”
I was petrified of her. But, she was pretty.
Very kind and gentle. Never yelling.
I finally thanked her. I was feeling giddy.
She asked where was my home?
I told her far to the East.
She said “This area is where I roam.”
“I live about 2 miles South, by the creek.”
I told her we were hunting & went too far.
“Come home with me till you feel better.”
My face went white. You could see my scar.
“What is the matter?” (Did I upset her?)
“I have just never been around people.”
She said “Do you live all alone then?”
“No, with family. That’s all I see though.”
“Are you married, or like other men?”
“just my parents & a brother. So, no.”
“I know what it’s like to live here. It’s hell.
“It is very desolate out here, I fear.”
“We won’t bite. We will treat you well.”
“Just my parents & I. No one else near.”
I tried to stand, but was very shaky.
I decided to take her up on her offer.
She had to pretty much take me.
Without her help, I would have faultered
Her mom fed me and said to wait.
The salve was already helping a bit.
Another hour or so is all it will take.
In a couple hours I was on my way.
I got home just before dark.
There wasn’t a lot I could say.
Except, I went West a lot. I was smart.

The Enemy Among Us

The Enemy Among Us

I look out upon the frosty land.
House roof and trees all white.
Along with the grass and sand.
My thoughts turn to the fight.

Our earth has been attacked.
By aliens for our mineral wealth.
We haven’t given up. We fight back.
Most of us are now in poor health.

We have returned to the rock age.
No modern comforts exist now.
But, our progress, we can gage.
There is a plan to tell us how.

The aliens can’t breathe our air.
They wear stuff to help with that.
Without their stuff, that they wear.
They would die, and that’s a fact.

We will eliminate their breathing gear.
We have a plan that will not fail.
It will work. We have nothing to fear.
They can’t order more through the mail.

We will burn the ship that has the stuff.
An inside job that will work for sure.
They enslaved some. They’re treated rough.
Yet, inside the ship, they will endure.

We have a way to contact them.
They will be supplied with what they need.
They will set fire to the breathing bins.
Make sure it cannot be easy to breathe.

With their equipment destroyed,
they will soon be in a real pickle.
The air,—- they must avoid.
They will be reduced to a trickle.

Those will leave or be overthrown.
Yes, they may return, given time.
By then, we will have things going.
We will be ready. Right down the line.

The Mystery Of The ‘Glob’

The Mystery Of The ‘Glob’

There is a mystery around every turn.
Someone threw a ‘glob’ into the churn.
People who used the butter didn’t get sick.
They didn’t thrash around due to a fit.
They developed some amazing powers.
They could predict rain, or just a shower.
They could see a plane fly overhead.
Tell you who was onboard & who they wed.
Given any object at all, they knew its history.
Right back to the day it was made. No mystery.
They could track better than the best blood hound.
They could even ‘root out’ an evil clown.
Such powers haven’t been known before.
Where did they come from? What’s at its core?
The word is, an alien handled the ‘glob.’
No, it wasn’t Uncle Bob.

He is an alien too.
But, not the kind we were exposed to.
What was the object with such a gift?
Did he make other aliens miffed?
Such powers in our hands could be a hazard.
Election day would go bad for the bastards.
Nothing would get past those with ‘the power.’
Election day would be the ‘bewitching hour.’
But, never fear—-“Power Man” is here.
Just kick back and have a beer.
“Power Man” will weed out the truth.
No need to go to the voting booth.
He will set you straight on all, but your mate.
He has to draw the line somewhere. It’s fate..
It is now a better world. Thanks to the ‘glob.’
With just a little help from Uncle Bob.

Summer Fun

Summer Fun

Well, it’s a down town day.
A day when I feel more than o.k.
A day for whistling as I walk along.
Great days like this are too soon gone.

I have feel alive and energized.
For this, I am more than obliged.
Everything is turning up roses.
I can even tell where my toe is.

I see all the good around.
Flower smell is good, I’ve found.
Dogs, cats, and other pets.
Are lots of fun. They love us, I guess.

People picknicing in the park.
They stay there till nearly dark.
Kids are playing, having fun.
There is plenty of food for everyone.

Close to home, kids are wet.
The sprinkler is on and set.
Slippery slides are a blast.
Whoever was first could be last.

Things we can’t do in winter.
No one needs a hint here.
Summer fun is all around.
Summer fun is where I’m bound.

So, my summer advice for you.
Is get out there & have fun too.
Don’t give me a dirty glare.
Remember, love is in the air.

A Storybook Romance

A Storybook Romance

I met her at the market place in old Hong Kong.
The only Americans, we instantly got along.
I wondered what she was doing there?
She said it was business only. I swear.
I said too bad. It was a good place for fun.
Drink a little Saki and go for a run.
A run on the beach, or just see the sights.
She said I had a real way to entice.
She was free the next day, so off we went.
Sightseeing, not concerned about what we spent.
We ran on the beach. Swam a little too.
There were tons of things to do.
After a day, or more, of this, she left for home.
I said I would call her on the phone.
She was from the California coast, near S.F.
An area I loved the most. Sorry I left.
A week later I gave her a call.
We went to wine country and had a ball.
The Napa Valley was very beautiful.
There was lots to drink & eat till full.
I told her that this is where I actually lived.
She said: “Really!”, as she used her bib.
“We are almost neighbors, you know.”
“Yet, we met in Hong Kong. What a show.”
Time passed by, like it always does.
Before long, her and I became us.
Traveling was a big part of our time.
I didn’t mind, since she was mine.
You know how these stories go.
Before long, another joined us for the show.
We named him Peter. Pete for short.
He won an award for his book report.
We asked him what book he had read.
He said none. It was based on our lives instead.

A Mysterious ‘Thing’

A Mysterious ‘Thing’

A friend came by the other day.
He had something important to say.
Said he had to show me what it was.
He couldn’t tell me,— just because.
I said: “o.k. Let’s go.” I was curious.
We headed out. This was mysterious.
Deep in the woods he stopped me.
“Take a look. What do you see?”
“I see trees, sky, grass, and bushes.”
“No, just to the left of where your foot is.”
I looked. It was a square of shiny bluish metal.
It looked like the square lid to a kettle.
“What is it?”, I asked as I bent down.
“I don’t know.”, he said with a frown.
I touched it, expecting it to be cool.
“It is the same temp as me or you.”
“That’s not all. Pick it up and see.”
I tried, but it was heavy as can be.
“Is it stuck in the ground?”
“I don’t think so.” As he looked around.
He handed me an entrenching tool.
“Dig it up. I will help you.”
We dug the dirt out from all around it.
Then, we dug out the dirt under it.
It just sat there. Floating in the air.
We tried to move it, to our despair
It wouldn’t move. It was locked in place.
All around it was just open space.
We looked at it real close on all sides.
I used the shovel and really pried.
It wouldn’t move. It wouldn’t scratch.
About 6 inches. All sides matched.
We tried heat to no effect.
We covered it, but it wouldn’t move yet.
We sprayed it with paint. it dripped off.
The heat didn’t make it turn soft.
We dug much deeper, but nothing was there.
We used a metal dector everywhere.
No metal registered. Nothing to be found.
There was no way to get it off the ground.
Neither heat or cold changed the temp.
It was not magnetic or radioactive.
It was totally inert. In no way active.
Impervious to drills, acid, or major blows.
It never moved or got a dent or a hole.
The next day we returned with help.
Our college science professor. He knelt.
He looked in the hole. “Is this some joke?”
There was nothing in the hole but smoke.
The ‘thing’ was gone. To where, we don’t know?
The professor was pissed & said he had to go.
We never saw ‘it’ again or found another.
But, I swear it’s true. I’m not lying, brother.

A ‘Wild’ Reaction

A ‘Wild’ Reaction

Your flying high in a cloudless sky.
You can see the scenery fly by.
You’re not in a plane or any such thing.
Yet, you’re flying, like you had wings.
You’re like a bird. How can this be?
You’re flying high, feeling free.
There is no fear in what you’re doing.
You’re having lots of fun. No fooling.
Is it imagination, or a vivid dream?
Maybe it is much more than it seems.
Have you thought about how to land?
You need to survive,—- if you can.
The sweat starts popping out of your head.
Then, you make a perfect landing, in your bed.
So,—- I guess it was all a dream?
Yet, it was much more than it seemed.
You can’t remember going to bed.
The whole thing is driving you out of your head.
Did you take a hallucinogenic drug?
Did you lick a Colorado river toad? Uggh.
Maybe ‘magic mushrooms’ did the trick?
Or maybe some LSD on a stick?
No, you never touch stuff like that.
The thought would make you puke in your hat.
Maybe it was that Superman movie you saw?
Or possibly that pizza you ate at the in laws?
None of this makes any sense.
Maybe it was a way to circumvent?
Avoid a nasty situation by just ‘flying off’?
Hard to be bothered when you are aloft.
You feel like Snoopy in his WW I adventures.
You should sell this. Put it in dispensers.
But, you don’t even know what it is?
Maybe, you were just reacting to her kiss?
She sends you into orbit, you know.
One kiss from her and here comes the show.

Archeological Dig Gone Wrong

Archeological Dig Goes Wrong

I went on an archeological dig.
Ancient ruins in an orchard of figs.
Why would these ruins be here?
Buried on purpose, was clear.
The dig lasted a year and a half.
What was dug up took more than that.
A circle of pillars with strange symbols.
They were all around the pillars lintels.
We didn’t understand what they meant.
If we did, we would have covered it & went.
It turned out to be a portal to hell.
The symbols were chants,— a spell.
One that would bring up a demon.
There is no doubt it was a mean one.
The symbols indicated ‘it’ killed all there.
‘It’ just appeared out of nowhere.
After finally translating the symbols,
it was clear to all, except two bimbos.
Two came back and chanted the words.
The ground shook. It was absurd.
Then, ‘it’ was there, out of nowhere.
They were grabbed & thrown in the air.
Then, they were ripped all apart.
The sight of the remains made us barf.
The site was rapidly covered up.
Taboo signs were stuck in the muck.
It was never mentioned again.
People were just told it was a sin.

Little Show Of Horrors

Little Show Of Horrors

Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
Was he welcoming in the morning light?
I fear what’s coming in the light of day.
I didn’t mean for things to turn out this way.

She might cut me loose today.
Tell me to go my own way.
All that I did was just for her.
But, it didn’t turn out right, for sure.

I tried to make it all a surprise.
To see the love shining from her eyes.
It was shocking, to say the least.
Made me look like some kind of beast.

It was supposed to be a puppet show.
Relaxing, for someone on the go.
Instead, it became a show of horrors.
Left her running, screaming, for the door.

Curse that puppeteer and his ‘sick’ humor.
I heard he was ‘sick’, but thought it a rumor.
His price was fair, so, we went from there.
I didn’t think it would be such a scare.

Blackbird singing in the dark of night.
Don’t be singing about such a fright.
This could be the end of our love affair.
Yet, you sing like you don’t even care.

If you ever want to surprise your girl.
Don’t hire a ‘sick’ puppeteer to thrill.
For he may scare her with his show.
Leaving you lost, with nowhere to go.

A Shocking Discovery Made

A Shocking Discovery Made

The Astro XM was deep in space.
The crew was snuggly in their pods.
The suspended animation in place.
To keep them alive against all odds.

The Astro XM was advanced.
Reaching the speed of light.
Those aboard were given a chance.
Minimal aging during the flight.

Space explorers; the first wave.
Traveling on through the night.
To find a place to permanently stay.
To establish an outpost was their right.

Onboard computers did their job
of locating an earth like planet.
Their accuracy was almost odd.
They did much more than plan it.

The ship went into orbit once there.
The crew was awakened at once.
They were excited to get their share.
Immediately, they left their bunks.

The landing pod, soon ready to go.
They did last checks and boarded.
They were ready to start this show.
This would not go unrewarded.

The clean, fresh, invigorating air
was the first thing it delivered.
The smell of flowers everywhere.
Trees, mountains, lakes, & rivers.

This place was a virtual paradise.
The beauty here was unsurpassed.
Yet, they saw no sign of any life,
Other than vegetation and grass?

How is this possible? Flowers take bees.
This was a mystery they must explore.
Reproduction could be by the breeze.
But, that left too much to ignore.

No life found in lakes, rivers, or land.
An ego system that cannot exist.
No sign of creatures like a man.
No animals, mammals, or insects to list.

Man entering this system might not work.
Obviously, it could upset the balance here.
Suddenly, they realized it wasn’t a quirk.
Man can’t enter anywhere, this was clear.

Earth was made for man & vice verse.
There is nowhere else he would fit in.
Maybe man should take better care of earth.
This side of heaven, nothing else is for him.
