Sincerity

      Sincerity

How can I explain to you.

Without me feeling like a fool.

Please don’t turn your head in shame.

I know that I’m the one to blame.

I wish that you were not crying so,

For each tear burns my very soul.

Nothing said can ease the pain.

Everything lost- – – Nothing gained.

All destroyed in the name of lust.

Nothing now can gain your trust.

There’s nowhere now that I can run.

Nothing can change what’s already done.

I need for you to believe in me.

I want your love for eternity.

If you could look within my mind,

It’s only you there all the time.

If I could lift from you your shame,

and take away all of your pain.

No matter what it took to do.

I would do this thing for you.

There’s no excuse for what I’ve done.

I know that you’re the only one.

What possessed me, I do not know.

I know I’ve never felt so low.

I plead you’ll take me back once more.

Please forgive me I implore.——————-R. W. Johnson—-(1994)

I Want To Know More

      “I Want To Know More”

“I want to know more”

I told my teacher in grade school.

She looked at me & said

“I would like to have more students like you.”

“I want to know more”

I said to the selective service sergeant.

He looked at me and said

“We need more solders like you.”

“I want to know more”

I said as I stood at the marital alter.

The preacher looked at me & said

“All you need to say is I do.”

“I want to know more”

I said to my wife as she walked out the door.

She looked at me and said

“I was a fool when I said I do.”

“I want to know more”

As I prayed to God wondering where I went wrong.

God looked down on me and said

“I am here my son until the end.”

“I want to know more”

I asked God again as I breathed my last.

God looked down, smiled & said

“Come to me.” ” Welcome home my friend.”

The Fly And The Crow

      The Fly And The Crow

I woke with the sun blazing in my eyes.

Another night if groveling in the dirt.

Fighting the demons with the Rye.

Is there no end to this miserable life?

I saw in the air above

six blackbirds chasing a crow.

He was flying, swooping, dodging.

But, he was just too slow.

Those blackbirds were giving him hell.

Sort of reminded me of myself.

Lying in the dirt, not doing well.

Is there no escape from this miserable life?

My life was a living hell.

Death would be a sweet release.

No, I wasn’t doing well.

There was only misery in my life.

Then, nearby. I saw a fly.

Trapped in a spider’s web.

He had caught the spider’s eye.

He was trying to get loose.

As the spider moved on in,

the fly struggled and fought.

But, he knew he couldn’t win.

Exactly how I was feeling.

This brought about a change in me.

I threw myself on the ground.

“God, are you there? Can you hear me?”

I prayed from my very soul.

“I know I can never win.”

“But, if you’ll forgive my feeble attempts,

I’ll walk away from the bottle and sin.”

I meant it with all my heart.

“But, like the fly and the crow,

I can do nothing to help myself.”

“It’s up to you God to help me grow.”

I laid it all before the Lord.

—————O—————

The man got up, brushed off his pants,

Then threw away his bottle.

He knew he had a second chance.

He would follow the Holy Spirit where he led.

He changed his ways.

He changed so much you wouldn’t believe

If you saw him this very day.

It was like the difference between black and white.

He’s now the Pastor down on skid row.

His sermons cause quite a stir.

Especially, when he preaches about the fly and the crow.

Praise the Lord in all he does!!!

Born Again

      Born Again

It comes back to me once more.

That horrible night I will never forget.

I went running for the door.

From the worst sight I’ve seen yet.

I have lived on the edge of twilight.

Staying in the shadows and the dark.

Sometimes I run with all my might.

Like sinners chasing after the ark.

I don’t have any close friends.

I walk on the dark side of the road.

Fear and paranoia never ends.

I feel my heart has grown cold.

Late one night I was passing a church.

The door was open and a voice came out.

I immediately stopped with a lurch.

He was praying and crying out.

“Lord, protect me from the demons “

“They are trying to kill me.”

He must be praying for me then.

That is what has happened to me.

I went to the door and dared to peek in.

It was one man asking for forgiveness.

He looked up and saw my sin.

I looked drawn and listless.

”Friend, you look as if you could use some prayer.”

“Come join me here on my knees.”

Next thing I knew I was kneeling there.

He started praying saying “Please Lord, please.”

“Lord, I know your judgment is fair.”

“Open up this man’s eyes so he can see.”

“Lead him to repent. I know You care.”

His prayer for forgiveness was meant for me.

Soon, I was asking forgiveness for my sins.

I told Him all. Nothing left to say.

I arose feeling free of my sins.

A great peace came my way.

The first time, after many years,

I found the Lord & he loved me.

Soon I was a fountain of tears.

I had found salvation , you see.

My life was different after that.

I could walk in the sun with my head up.

I was a Son of God. Imagine that.

I was finally out of that rut.

From that day on I praised the Lord.

He gave me a new heart and life.

He never lets me get bored.

He gave me life and a loving wife.

Thoughts Of You

      Thoughts Of You

You’re a living walking dream.

You’re the best I’ve ever seen.

Oh God – – – I wanted you.

I often wondered what I’d do

If I could give myself to you.

Oh God – – – I wanted to.

Then, one day, the chance arrived.

Fate had brought me by your side.

Oh God – – – Now what to do?

I took a chance when I touched you.

I rubbed your back and cuddled to you.

Oh God – – – I wanted to.

Since that day my life has changed.

No more sadness. No more pain.

Like a bird when it’s in flight.

My heart has soared to a new height.

You’re still a living, walking dream.

The best wife I’ve ever seen.

Oh God – – – I know it’s true.

Now, I know just what I’d do.

Cause I can give myself to you.

Oh God – – – I do love you.

My heart cries out with such delight.

I pray you’ll always be my wife.

Oh God – – – I want you to.

If there’s one who’s going to be

With me throughout eternity.

Oh God – – – Let it be you.———————–R. W. Johnson—–(1994)

Addiction Blues

      Addiction Blues

I am back on the bottom again.

The addictive personality got me when

I wanted something to ease the pain.

It wasn’t alcohol but, much the same.

Just one pill did the trick

It accelerated, oh so quick.

After years since I took a drink.

I took a pill and didn’t think.

Once the receptors have taken hold

Anything addictive will unfold.

Triggering the same centers in the brain

That starts a craving worse than pain.

I’m so ashamed of what has occurred.

People think it is so absurd.

How could someone take that many pills?

They don’t realize I have no will.

I am going through detox again.

I have support of many friends.

I am praying to God above.

Shower me with your love.

Give me strength to overcome.

Give me a future filled with fun.

But, mostly, just keep me clean.

Keep me sober to the extreme.

Bless all my friends who pray for me.

Keep them safe as they can be.

Without them I would be lost.

I love them no matter what the cost.———R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

Mandy’s Poem

Mandy’s Poem

My favorite niece has a birthday today.

The world was blessed in a mighty way

When she came into the world to stay.

She’s now an adult and on her way

to be the best there is I’m here to say.

She is kind, generous and quite insightful.

The way she laughs is quite delightful.

She has a lot of empathy for others.

Treats others like a sister or brother.

She’s made up of a lot of emotions.

At times, she could cause a commotion.

She is VERY attached to her family.

She wants them to have all that can be.

At times, she worries about things too much

A sign of someone who cares enough.

She can get to the point in a poetic way.

Her thoughts on paper have so much to say.

She works giving comfort and aid to others.

They are uplifted as if it was from mother.

She’s a loving and religious person.

She gives all to her daughter and son.

Her husband is blessed to have such a wife.

He should keep her for the rest of his life.

World Gone Wrong

      World Gone Wrong

Can we perceiver in such trying times.

People coming on with such lines

as “I am here to save your heart.”

Coronary doctors doing their part..

Other con men take up the slack.

I’ll be glad when hero’s are back.

I know there’s something more

than what were living for.

I think we’re all afraid

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind

Someone’s coming to our aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.

We are pulled this way and that.

We don’t have energy to fight back.

The wheels have fallen off the world.

We’ve been spun and we’ve been twirled.

Our whole world’s turned upside down.

Up or down can no longer be found

I know there’s something more

than what we’re living for.

I think we’re all afraid.

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind.

Someone’s coming to our aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.

To cut through the confusion, pray.

Study the Bible until you can say.

I see it now. It all makes sense.

God, forgive me.— I repent.

I repute all sin & accept you as Lord.

Save me from this crazy hoard.

I know there’s something more

than what we’re living for.

I think we’re afraid.

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind.

Someone’s coming to out aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.———–R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

Space Rock – Or More?

      Space Rock – Or More?

Spiraling through space.

Round and round.

A freezing cold hunk of rock.

Silence all around.

Ever onward through the void.

It’s destination unknown.

There was nothing to avoid.

It traveled on alone.

Time was non-existent here.

Every revolution the same.

Could life exist in such a state?

Survive and not go insane?

Yet,—- alive it was.

Not as we would know life.

Something different altogether.

Still something that had the right

to be called a sentient being.

A living ship might be close

To describe this hunk of rock.

Could it be carrying ghosts

onward to their destiny?

If there was life within,

there was no indication.

Just a hunk of rock in space

was all. No communication.

A time will someday come

when it will reach a destination.

Then, the answer will reveal

it’s final consecration.———————-R. W. Johnson—-(2011)

The Home Coming

      The Home Coming

She was a girl living on her own in the city.

I saw her as a flower blooming very pretty.

I made an effort to get to know her.

Before long I grew much bolder.

I asked her out and love grew from there.

Then word came which we could hardly bare

I had to leave for an indefinite time.

We cried. I said everything would be fine.

I’d send money. She could move away.

She wanted into a country home to stay.

Eventually, this dream came true for her.

She bought a home. A cozy one, for sure.

She continued to wait with much concern.

The time was near for my return.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.

She was a country girl at heart.

She loved to sit before the hearth.

Feel the warmth coming from the fire.

As she dreamed of her desire.

She was faithful as she waited patiently.

Knowing I would be coming home to see

our new home where we would be together.

Our love will grow, no matter the weather.

She knew I didn’t want to leave.

It was impossible to even conceive

of being apart for such a lengthy time.

It was so hard it was almost a crime.

But, it all would be over soon.

All the waiting would heal like a wound.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.———————R. W. Johnson—–(2011)
