The table is set & dinner is ready.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The kids are staying with friends.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

They are spending the night at Eddie\u2019s.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t wait for this evening to begin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I patiently wait, but you don\u2019t show.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is our chance to make amends.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Another chance to make it a go.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

To, finally be real,—- no pretends.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The dinner is being kept warm.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It is getting later by the hour.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

My heart is slowly being torn.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It is wilting—- like a flower. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Must this night be ruined before it begins.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like so many others before this.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This was going to be our time to make amends.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Instead, our relationship is sinking, like a ship.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want it to end this way.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t want it to end at all.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

But, if you\u2019ve found someone else for play.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I see the handwriting on the wall.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It looks like another night for my tears to fall.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s way too late. I put the dinner away.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t eat.—- My heart wasn\u2019t it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I lie in bed, but I am wide awake.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

My good mood is gone. I feel like s\u2014t.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally, I hear you come in.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

You slowly come up the stairs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

You smell of cigarettes and gin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tell your excuses to someone who cares.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I turn over and don\u2019t say a thing.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

You get undressed & slip into bed.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Soon, I hear your snores as they ring.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Then, the tears start falling from my head.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
