\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Something In The Night<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n As I laid down for the night.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I heard a thump, off to the right.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I sat up and looked around.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Nothing unusual could be found <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I reached up & turned out the light.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Before long, I had a fright.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I felt a presence standing there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I could feel it in the air.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The hair on my head stood up.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I felt trapped, like I was stuck.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Quick, like a bunny, I turned on the light.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I looked left and I looked right.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I couldn\u2019t see anyone around.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n My spouse lay next to me, sleeping sound.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I left the light on for awhile.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Eventually, I turned it off, with a smile.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n My imagination was working overtime.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n It was that short horror stories book of mine.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I was reading it to kill some time.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Before I started it, everything was fine.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I tried to get comfortable & go to sleep.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I prayed to the Lord my soul to keep.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I was just dosing when my wife awoke.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSomeone is here\u201d, she spoke.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n This sent a shiver of fear down my back.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I turned on the lamp, expecting a trap.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Again,—- no one was there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThey could be hiding anywhere.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I said \u201cI\u2019ll check it out\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I grabbed a flashlight & moved about. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I checked the house from bottom to top.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Checked windows, doors, and every lock.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n All was secure. No one was there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Nothing out of place anywhere.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n She said \u201cMaybe it was a ghost?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cNo such thing,\u201d I tried to boast.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Again, we tried to get to sleep.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The scraping sound made me feel weak.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I jumped up with flashlight in hand.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n I was ready to clobber the \u2018man.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n No one there.— Not a sound.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Nothing unusual could be found.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n We agreed to sleep with the light on.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n It was fine till the light was gone.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n We awoke with the lights out.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhat the hell!!,\u201d I began to shout.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Our bed started shaking for no reason.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n No earthquake, out of season.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n We were scared. She started to scream.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n We just wanted to split the scene.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Then, everything went completely still.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Not a single sound to give us a thrill.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Nothing ever happened again.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Our explanations were looking dim.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Years later, we don\u2019t mention it anymore.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Yet, we sleep with light on & a locked door.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n ————————————–R.
