When I was young I would always moan.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

He would say \u201cDon\u2019t even ask. It\u2019s set in stone.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What exactly did this mean to me?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Not very much then, as you can see.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Now that I am fully grown,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I catch myself saying \u201cIt\u2019s set in stone.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What a thing.—– \u00a0Just pass it along.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

They might as well put it in a song.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I am sure my kids think \u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a \u2018Pappy Quote.\u2019 Your grandfather, it seems,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

thought this was the answer to anything.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It was enough back then to make me scream.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

But, why continue to say it today?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Is it\u00a0just something that is handy to say?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Whip the tykes into line till they moan.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t even ask. It\u2019s set in stone.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Some things are passed on down the line.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Generation to generation, they think it\u2019s fine.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sayings and other things we do<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

that were passed on from me to you.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I could write a book of \u2018Old Pappy sayings.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like \u201cIt ain\u2019t worth kneeling unless you\u2019re praying.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

‘Old Pappy\u2019 had advice on everything.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The witticisms he would repeat were really keen.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A regular Will Rogers without a rope.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Yet, it all could give you hope.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Words to learn,—— to live by.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I miss hearing them now, I sigh.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

My \u2018Old Pappy\u2019 was saying things<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

long before \u201cMaverick\u201d was even a dream.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In the old western TV show<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Maverick would quote his \u2018Old Pappy\u2019, you know.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

So, I catch myself doing the same.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Quoting my \u2018Old Pappy.\u2019 It\u2019s not insane.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Old Pappy\u2019 was pretty smart in his day.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

He is still pretty smart.——- Even today.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
