The Fastest Gun Always Won<\/p>\n
Long ago, in the cowboy days,
\na fast draw was just a blaze.
\nIf you could draw and fire first,
\nYou would find that you are cursed.<\/p>\n
Everyone would be looking for you.
\nThey wanted to be the fastest too.
\nThe way it\u2019s done is to outdraw you.
\nBut, this would mean you\u2019re dead too.<\/p>\n
A young lad that I heard of then.
\nHe was so fast, let me tell you friend.
\nYou could not see his draw.
\nHe never missed. He could split a straw.<\/p>\n
But, this young lad was very smart.
\nHe wore no gun from the start.
\nHe didn\u2019t want anyone to know.
\nHe was the fastest of any show.<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t want that type of reputation.
\nTo be known as the fastest in the nation
\nwas not his bag of tea.
\nIt was all very simple, you see.<\/p>\n
He practiced till he was the best.
\nHis parents were killed by a guest.
\nSomeone they invited into their home.
\nHe was a killer, it was later known.<\/p>\n
The lad saw him and knew him by sight.
\nThat\u2019s why he practiced day and night.
\nThen, he heard the killer was in town.
\nSo, that\u2019s exactly where he was bound.<\/p>\n
Before he got there, there was a fight.
\nThe killer was killed in a gunfight.
\nHe realized he could end up just like him.
\nHe decided to put up his guns then.<\/p>\n
So, the fastest gun in the West
\nWill never be known as the best.
\nAt least till he was elected sheriff.
\nThen, he had to shoot and bare it.<\/p>\n
Seldom did someone even try.
\nThey found his speed wasn\u2019t a lie.
\nGun in his hand before they cleared leather.
\nThey went to jail for being so cleaver.<\/p>\n
In time, gunfights became a thing of the past.
\nThe sheriff was never laid under the grass.
\nHis reputation, be what it may,
\nbecame the stories of another day.<\/p>\n
