A Mysterious \u2018Thing\u2019<\/p>\n
A friend came by the other day.
\nHe had something important to say.
\nSaid he had to show me what it was.
\nHe couldn\u2019t tell me,— just because.
\nI said: \u201co.k. Let\u2019s go.\u201d I was curious.
\nWe headed out. This was mysterious.
\nDeep in the woods he stopped me.
\n\u201cTake a look. What do you see?\u201d
\n\u201cI see trees, sky, grass, and bushes.\u201d
\n\u201cNo, just to the left of where your foot is.\u201d
\nI looked. It was a square of shiny bluish metal.
\nIt looked like the square lid to a kettle.
\n\u201cWhat is it?\u201d, I asked as I bent down.
\n\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d, he said with a frown.
\nI touched it, expecting it to be cool.
\n\u201cIt is the same temp as me or you.\u201d
\n\u201cThat\u2019s not all. Pick it up and see.\u201d
\nI tried, but it was heavy as can be.
\n\u201cIs it stuck in the ground?\u201d
\n\u201cI don\u2019t think so.\u201d As he looked around.
\nHe handed me an entrenching tool.
\n\u201cDig it up. I will help you.\u201d
\nWe dug the dirt out from all around it.
\nThen, we dug out the dirt under it.
\nIt just sat there. Floating in the air.
\nWe tried to move it, to our despair
\nIt wouldn\u2019t move. It was locked in place.
\nAll around it was just open space.
\nWe looked at it real close on all sides.
\nI used the shovel and really pried.
\nIt wouldn\u2019t move. It wouldn\u2019t scratch.
\nAbout 6 inches. All sides matched.
\nWe tried heat to no effect.
\nWe covered it, but it wouldn\u2019t move yet.
\nWe sprayed it with paint. it dripped off.
\nThe heat didn\u2019t make it turn soft.
\nWe dug much deeper, but nothing was there.
\nWe used a metal dector everywhere.
\nNo metal registered. Nothing to be found.
\nThere was no way to get it off the ground.
\nNeither heat or cold changed the temp.
\nIt was not magnetic or radioactive.
\nIt was totally inert. In no way active.
\nImpervious to drills, acid, or major blows.
\nIt never moved or got a dent or a hole.
\nThe next day we returned with help.
\nOur college science professor. He knelt.
\nHe looked in the hole. \u201cIs this some joke?\u201d
\nThere was nothing in the hole but smoke.
\nThe \u2018thing\u2019 was gone. To where, we don\u2019t know?
\nThe professor was pissed & said he had to go.
\nWe never saw \u2018it\u2019 again or found another.
\nBut, I swear it\u2019s true. I\u2019m not lying, brother.<\/p>\n
