Drawbacks To The Foreign Legion<\/p>\n
It is dark and chilly on the desert tonight.
\nTo hold this fort, we must stay and fight.
\nI am on duty. Walking on the walls.
\nWatching for movement out in the drawls.<\/p>\n
This is our 49th day we have been here.
\nWe cannot let the enemy near.
\nThis is the only oasis for 50 miles.
\nIf you control the water, you are all smiles.<\/p>\n
I cannot remember what it\u2019s all about.
\nI just follow orders and never pout.
\nThe Foreign Legion is the best of the best.
\nI really love my desert colored vest.<\/p>\n
It took us many days to get here by camel.
\nI was so tired & thirsty, I started to ramble.
\nWe were told to hold this fort at all costs.
\nTo lose this fort meant all was lost.<\/p>\n
Whoever controls the water controls all.
\nWe have the only water, from what I saw.
\nI saw a skeleton face down in a dried up ditch.
\nLife in the desert without water is a bitch.<\/p>\n
Yet, I don\u2019t get it? What is there to protect?
\nWater is the only thing—– I would bet.
\nWater in the desert is worth more than gold.
\nA person will give all for a drink, I am told.<\/p>\n
But, if you\u2019re not in the desert, water is around.
\nYou can find it by just digging in the ground.
\nSo, why come to the desert where water is rare?
\nThere has to be something else here, I\u2019ll swear.<\/p>\n
They don\u2019t tell us of low rank a thing.
\nFight for the glory is all they sing.
\nI will do this, if the enemy gives us a try.
\nBut, I sure wouldn\u2019t mind a piece of the pie.<\/p>\n
To the victors goes the spoils, they say.
\nThat could be better than a pay day.
\nBut, you don\u2019t get rich in the Foreign Legion.
\nIf you try, you could be hung for treason.<\/p>\n
So, I\u2019ll just keep doing what I do best.
\nKeep an eye out for all the rest.
\nFight when the time is at hand.
\nIf I survive,—– I will be ‘the man.’<\/p>\n
