It is always hot in this desert town.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Even in the winter it is warm.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Not many want to hang around.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It is a hell of a place to be born.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Those raised here stay around the most.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

If not for that, there\u2019d be only ghosts.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then what was she doing in this town?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Originally she was passing through.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Good looking, yet hanging around?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Got herself a job at the diner too.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She doesn\u2019t talk about her past.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Mostly, she just stays to herself.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t think her stay would last.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Yet, she\u2019s never asked for help.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

One morning we got to talking.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She shared a few interests with me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Enough that I didn\u2019t feel like walking.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Hiking, fishing, and bikes, you see.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I asked her if she would come,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I could take her to some real action.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Sunday there would be a dirt bike run.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Ride like the wind if you have traction.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She said yes and it was settled.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Sunday I went to pick her up.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She had a dirt bike. Not one you peddle.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I put it in the back of my pickup truck.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We went out to Big Sand Hill.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Lots of bikers already there.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Trying to ride to the top for a thrill.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Most didn\u2019t get anywhere.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I took off and barely made it over.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She came right after and came right up.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The first girl to make it over.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She was too good for it to be luck.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She wouldn\u2019t say where she learned to ride.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She made it up several more times that day.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She made it every time she tried.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I fell more times than I want to say.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I said she could ride. Next we\u2019ll try fishing.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She said she would be happy to go.
\nI didn\u2019t want work to think she was missing.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Evening is a good time to go.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That next evening I towed my boat.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We went to the river to launch it.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

In an hour, I thought I could gloat.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

But, I had three more fish to get.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She had caught three more than me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She wouldn\u2019t say where she learned to fish.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She was good. Said it made her feel free.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The outdoors type and still a real dish.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I offered hiking next. There was no winner.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I really am not the competitive type.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She said she wasn\u2019t either, so would go.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

There is nothing but fun to take a hike.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That weekend we were ready to go.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We hiked about ten miles to a deserted mine.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was a pretty desert spot there.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was a good place to kill some time.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We started talking. I didn\u2019t care.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She finally told me of her past.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She ran away from fame and glory.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She knew that life wouldn\u2019t last.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That was the end of her story.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I said I didn\u2019t think so. It had just begun.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She said what did I mean?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

If you feel like I do hon.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then you know just what I mean.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She smiled and gave me a big kiss.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I knew I was into something good.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

This could lead to real bliss.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

In this desert with nothing good.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
