Twinkling lights. Stars all around.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Yet, here \u00a0I am, \u00a0prison bound.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

For a crime that I did not do.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t do such a thing to you.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The judge said \u201cguilty\u201d in a make believe trial.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Said I would be put away for a long while.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Someone shot and killed you.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That was something I wouldn\u2019t do.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I loved you with all my heart.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I thought we would never part.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

There is no justice in this hillbilly town.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I was an outsider, I soon found.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Yet, I loved you. It was my fate.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

You worked at the diner where I ate.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

You served me my breakfast plate.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

You said you hoped I liked the steak.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We started talking and I asked you out.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

You accepted. I wanted to shout.
\nAfter a few dates, we were a number.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Locals wanted to put us under.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They didn\u2019t take to any strangers.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Said I wasn\u2019t born in a manger.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I came over to pick you up.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

In your hand was a coffee cup.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

You were dead on the floor.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A gun was lying near the door.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I grabbed it up and looked around.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That is the way I was found.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Neighbors heard the shot . Came to see.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

What they found was only me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They saw the gun in my hand.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I was a stranger in their land.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They wouldn\u2019t believe my story.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The gun matched the bullet in Lori.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

My finger prints, of course, were on it.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

So goes the story of my sonnet.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to die in the state prison.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Every one said \u201cThey wouldn\u2019t miss him.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A stranger in a hillbilly town has no chance.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He\u2019d be better off to not find romance.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A backwoods lawyer isn\u2019t worth his weight.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Which was considerable, at my trial date.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Justice is a word with little meaning.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

When it comes to keeping me from swinging.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
