The dust storm was severe.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I was lost, that was clear.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Grit was getting in my eyes.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was burning, making me cry.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I kept staggering along.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Wondering which way I had gone?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t see a single thing.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Wondering what each step will bring?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A wet handkerchief over my face.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Goggles on, I can\u2019t see this place.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I was out, mining for gold.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

“It\u2019s in the desert,” I was told.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They failed to mention the storms.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Now, I feel so forlorn.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I may die before this is over.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They will find me pushing up clover.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Suddenly, I fell and rolled down a hill.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A sand dune, building for the kill?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I imagined it falling and covering me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

There was nowhere for me to flee.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The wind was much less down here.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It felt better, that was clear.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I found I could see around a bit.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Sand was blowing over a rift.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A small bluff of higher land.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Behind it, I was below the sand.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then, I saw something shiny.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was gold! Quite a find for me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I dug\u00a0around & found a bunch in a sack.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I had found some miner\u2019s pack.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I would lay low till the storm blew out.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Grab the gold and set a route.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

If I can make it out of here.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I will be rich. That was clear.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then, I remembered the stories.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A miner left his gold behind, his glory.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He knew he couldn\u2019t carry it out .<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cI need more water,\u201d he did shout.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Indians found him barely alive.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They helped him to survive.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He searched for his\u00a0stash of gold\u00a0for years.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was lost, along with his fears.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I decided he may have been right.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I gave up the gold without a fight.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I took 2 nuggets along with me.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I made it out. I was lucky & free.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I went back to find that gold.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was lost, as I had been told.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Which is better? Gold or life?<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll take life with all its strife.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

That gold may never be found again.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

But, overall, it is\u00a0better to win.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
