They were coming in a cloud of dust.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We were riding in a thundering rush.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Only a mile to the safety of the fort.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I wanted to hear their rifles report.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They would turn back the insane.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Once in range, with rifles aflame.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Those Indians were insane with rage.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They would scalp us if we engaged.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We had come upon their tepee camp.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They saw us and began to chant.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Just squaws and kids. Braves were gone.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A hunting trip. Won\u2019t be gone long.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We raped pillaged and burned it all.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

One young buck escaped \u00a0the fall.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He took off on horseback fast.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We couldn\u2019t catch his ass.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He made it to the hunting party.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Told them and they got gnarly<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He showed them which way we went.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Seeing their village, their clothes they rent. <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They chased us double time.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We thought that all was fine.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Till we saw that cloud of dust.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We knew it would be the end of us.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We had to make it to the fort.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Or we would never make a report.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We thought we had a chance.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then, we saw the cloud in fast advance.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A bunch cut us off from the side.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They were wild and wanted our hide.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

We were killed to the last man.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Except for me, but I never ran.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I, the youngest, was tortured and spared.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I was barely alive. No one cared.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They tied me on my horse.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Sent it toward the fort, of course.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I reported all that took place.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Said that the chief got right in my face.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Said tell them this is revenge.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They come again and it will be the end.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
