Anika opened the portal and they jumped through.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

What a shock. From desert heat to where snow blew.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They were all shivering, from their heads to their feet.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She made a bubble to keep in their body heat.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She said \u201cMagnifico\u201d to get a better look.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It brought things closer. Worse than a book.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They saw snow, glaciers, a white, frozen waste.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Very rough travel. They were in no haste.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The black panthers really stood out.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Anika magically changed all but their snout.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They were now pure white snow cats.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The panthers were not too happy with that.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They understood why and went along.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Off they went singing a song.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Indications were they didn\u2019t have far to go.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The problem was progress was real slow.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then, up ahead, a gigantic polar bear.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He popped up right out of nowhere.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He had a giant mouth lined with sharp teeth.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Huge claws with barbs, and a mean streak. <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He roared, charged and hit the shield.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He hit it several times. It wouldn\u2019t yield.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Anika pointed her wand and said \u201cVibratis.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

An avalanche came down to overtake us.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It took the huge bear far below.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The shield protected them from the snow.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The panthers dug us out, like from a mine.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Pern on her shoulder all the time.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They came to a deep chasm they had to cross.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

A glacier\u00a0 was beyond, covered with frost.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She would have to fly across, she found. <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Each panther weighed about 400 pounds.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Pern could fly across with ease.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

For the panthers, it would be a squeeze.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She wrapped both in a tight magical loop.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They flew across as a group.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

She couldn\u2019t maintain flight for long.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was a drain, but she was strong.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They made it with space to spare.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The panthers didn\u2019t like it in the air.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They were very close to their goal now.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Then, they heard a terrible howl.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

An abominable snowman ahead.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

About 15 feet tall from foot to head.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The panthers charged and took out his legs.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Pern ripped his eyes. He howled and begged.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The panthers next ripped out his throat.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

He died fast, lots of blood on his coat.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The portal was just beyond.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Anika opened it with her wand.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

They all passed through.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

It was pitch black that they walked into.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

What was there will be told later.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I hope it\u2019s not a nasty gator.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
