You woke me up early when you said goodbye.
\nYou said you loved me, but I didn\u2019t know why.
\nI was still drowsy and went back to sleep.
\nNow I am awake and in utter defeat.
\nThe note you left me on the kitchen table
\nsaid you were sorry, but you were no longer able.
\nAble to pretend everything was all right.
\nYou had not said why to prevent a fight.
\nYou had met another. You know how it goes.
\nOne thing led to another. My heart was exposed.
\nBefore long, I knew it could only be him.
\nI long for another so why should I pretend.
\nMy heart was awake now and in a real hurt.
\nIt was broken and stomped into the dirt.
\nI paced around with nothing else to do.
\nI watched some TV, but kept thinking of you.
\nI counted flowers on the wall.
\nIt did nothing for me at all.
\nI played catch with the dog.
\nI drove in circles in the fog.
\nI had no idea where you were.
\nTo check at your work didn\u2019t occur.
\nDays later, the idea came.
\nYou had quit your job, no reason to claim.
\nFBI relocation would be easier to trace.
\nYou had totally vanished from this place.
\nTherapy, antidepressants and a lot of time.
\nI am finally able to say the fault wasn\u2019t mine.
\nIt is something no one wants to go through.
\nI hope this never happens to you.<\/p>\n
