A couple of centuries, or more passed.
\nThey were making real progress, at last.
\nThen, the realization set in.
\nThere was no way to pull it off & win.
\nThe closer they got to being done,
\nthe closer the demons watched everyone.
\nThey were so nervous, they were sweating bullets.
\nBut, they didn\u2019t want the demons to know it.
\nThen, \u2018The Shadow\u2019 said \u201cI have an idea.\u201d
\n\u201cI will be back in a day or two. See ya.\u201d
\n\u2018The Shadow\u2019 was gone, if he was even there.
\nThey often wondered about it. I swear.
\nTwo days later, \u2018The Shadow\u2019 was back.
\n\u201cI think this will do it. It\u2019s a fact.\u201d
\n\u201cAs you know, I am a magician too.\u201d
\n\u201cSo, I am a master illusionist. It\u2019s true.\u201d
\n\u201c I can use this skill to fool these arrogant demons.\u201d
\n\u201cThese foul scoundrels, without any feelings.\u201d
\nKronos said \u201cIllusions? That is a bunch of crap.\u201d
\n\u201cI thought you would say just\u00a0 that.\u201d
\n\u2018The Shadow\u2019 pulled out a deck of cards.
\nAfter several card tricks, Kronos got hard.
\nHe shot out a beam & burned up the cards.
\n\u2018The Shadow\u2019 said \u201dHow about this?\u201d
\nSuddenly, demons appeared, out of some mist.
\n\u201cWhat the hell!!\u201d Kronos roared, jumping back.
\n\u201cSmack them in the chops.\u201d \u2018The Shadow\u2019 spat.
\nKronos shrugged & took a swing.
\nHis hand passed right through. Not demons, it seemed.
\n\u201cI would have swore they were real.\u201d Kronos said.
\n\u201cNope, just illusion. All from my head.\u201d
\n\u201cO.K., what exactly do you have in mind.\u201d
\n\u201cI will work an illusion. The demons will be mine.\u201d
\n\u201cWhat do you mean by that?\u201d Asglow asked.
\n\u201cI will tell you what I expect to pass.\u201d
\n\u201cWe will complete the matrix to our plans.\u201d
\n\u201cThen, tell the demons we have completed their plan.\u201d
\n\u201cThey will come to check it & will only see what they wanted.\u201d
\n\u201cI will use an illusion to hide the real gauntlet.\u201d
\n\u201cYou will mislead them by showing great fear.\u201d
\n\u201cWe don\u2019t want the universe to disappear.\u201d
\n\u201cBecause, if it does, we disappear too.\u201d
\n\u201cWe are not stupid & anyone\u2019s fool.\u201d
\n\u201cThat sounds fantastic, except for one thing.\u201d
\n\u201cWe are totally trusting you & all that you bring.\u201d
\n\u201cIf your illusion won\u2019t fool the demons,
\npanthers will rip me up for treason.\u201d
\n\u201cHave no fear. I haven\u2019t let you down yet.\u201d
\n\u201cThere hasn\u2019t been a challenge I haven\u2019t met.\u201d
\n\u201cBut, the final deception will depend on you.\u201d
\n\u201cYou must convince the demons what they see is true.\u201d
\n\u201cIt seems I will become The Great Deceiver then.\u201d
\n\u201cToo bad Anika isn\u2019t here to see the end.\u201d
\nWith the plans all made, all they had to do is
\ncomplete the matrix & make sure it doesn\u2019t fizz.
\nWill they be successful? I yet don\u2019t know.
\nWhen I do, it will be quite a show.
