There it is. That same old house.<\/p>\n

I came up quiet as a mouse.<\/p>\n

With hesitation, I knocked on the door.<\/p>\n

Soon, a woman came to the door.<\/p>\n

She smiled and said \u201dHi.\u201d and no more.<\/p>\n

\u201cExcuse me but, have I been here before?\u201d<\/p>\n

She looked at me with surprise & said \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201dOh, one more thing before you go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you happen to know my name?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t even know your own name?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, you see. I have lost my memory.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened? Can you tell me?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI woke up in the hospital 3 days ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said I was found lying next to the road.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey assumed I had been hit by a car.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMinor cuts & bruises was all so far.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso a concussion from when I fell.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no memory of it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere did this all happen?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey found me on Valencia near Main.\u201d<\/p>\n

Suddenly, very pale, she became.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou said this was 3 days ago?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what they told me before they let me go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was driving there that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething banged my door on the right.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought the tire flipped something up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOr, maybe, I had hit a big rut.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw nothing in my rear view mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was you that I hit, I fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow did you know to come here to find me?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had money to stay several days in a hotel, see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no I.D. on me when I was found.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was this money lying around.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said maybe I was out for a walk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI might live near there, within a few blocks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c I started walking all around from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEach time I was drawn to this house , I swear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow you know as much as me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCome in & stay awhile with me\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least until your memory comes back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the least I can do after the fact.\u201d<\/p>\n

I stayed there and time went by.<\/p>\n

She was single and pretty shy.<\/p>\n

Gradually, my memory did return.<\/p>\n

I lived close by, I did learn.<\/p>\n

I had come by the money honestly.<\/p>\n

I was not married I was glad to see.<\/p>\n

I have to cut this story short.<\/p>\n

But, this is my favorite retort.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere is my wife who I remember now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wasn\u2019t at the start but, she is now.\u201d<\/p>\n
