{"id":368,"date":"2014-12-10T16:48:29","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T00:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wordsmithwisdom.com\/?p=368"},"modified":"2014-12-10T16:48:29","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T00:48:29","slug":"pacos-pete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wordsmithwisdom.com\/?p=368","title":{"rendered":"Pacos Pete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pacos Pete<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pacos Pete was ornery old sot.<\/p>\n<p>Lived in a shack &amp; slept on a cot.<\/p>\n<p>This old goat was a loner, it seems.<\/p>\n<p>Most people he met was in his dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Some say a hermit is what he was.<\/p>\n<p>It was harsh, though he never had a love.<\/p>\n<p>The desert was his home.<\/p>\n<p>He liked living alone.<\/p>\n<p>A small spring in the back of his place<\/p>\n<p>was enough for Pete to wash his face.<\/p>\n<p>It was enough for other little things.<\/p>\n<p>A bath was rare, usually in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Pete didn\u2019t like other people around.<\/p>\n<p>Only once a month he went into town.<\/p>\n<p>A feisty coot, even though he was old.<\/p>\n<p>He would pay for his supplies in gold.<\/p>\n<p>No one ever bothered old Pete.<\/p>\n<p>Town folk made sure he got something to eat.<\/p>\n<p>One day , some \u2019no gooders\u2019\u00a0 came to town.<\/p>\n<p>They were out just roaming around.<\/p>\n<p>Here came Pete on his way into town.<\/p>\n<p>The bad boys looked at Pete with a frown.<\/p>\n<p>Pete went into the general store.<\/p>\n<p>Loaded up his truck &amp; went back for more.<\/p>\n<p>How can he afford that the baddies thought?<\/p>\n<p>Look at how much stuff he has bought.<\/p>\n<p>Pete went into the caf\u00e9 for a bite.<\/p>\n<p>Just as soon as he was out of sight<\/p>\n<p>the baddies went into the general store.<\/p>\n<p>They asked the clerk how the old guy scored.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d said the clerk.\u00a0 \u201cDid he have cash?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, he pays in gold.\u201d said the clerk with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>The bad boys were shocked to hear this.<\/p>\n<p>One of them said \u201cWell, ain\u2019t that a bitch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They planned to follow Pete when he left.<\/p>\n<p>This would be their biggest theft.<\/p>\n<p>Pete came out &amp; drove away in his truck.<\/p>\n<p>The bad boys followed crossing their fingers for luck.<\/p>\n<p>Pete headed straight into the desert.<\/p>\n<p>It was very hot that day in the desert.<\/p>\n<p>Pete kept driving. He had a long way to go.<\/p>\n<p>The bad boys car was starting to slow.<\/p>\n<p>Pete made it home a little after dark.<\/p>\n<p>Next morning he was awakened by a lark.<\/p>\n<p>He went outside \u00a0&amp; saw buzzards circling.<\/p>\n<p>Pete knew that could only mean one thing.<\/p>\n<p>He got in his truck to check it out.<\/p>\n<p>It was\u00a0 drier than usual due to the drought.<\/p>\n<p>He found the bad boys car dead in the road.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018owners were nowhere around,\u00a0 it\u2019s told.<\/p>\n<p>Pete knew the buzzards meant they didn\u2019t make it.<\/p>\n<p>Just as well he thought. most people can\u2019t take it.<\/p>\n<p>Pete had no knowledge what almost happened to him.<\/p>\n<p>But, Pete didn\u2019t worry.
