{"id":3795,"date":"2020-04-18T11:27:32","date_gmt":"2020-04-18T19:27:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wordsmithwisdom.com\/?p=3795"},"modified":"2020-04-18T11:27:32","modified_gmt":"2020-04-18T19:27:32","slug":"the-wood-chopper-part-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wordsmithwisdom.com\/?p=3795","title":{"rendered":"The Wood Chopper (Part two)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Wood Chopper\n(Part two)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>On the way back to the town,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>they started talking with a frown.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The wood chopper seemed suspicious to them.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>He just didn\u2019t answer where or when.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Then they thought about the stew.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Whatever the meat was, no one knew.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>A couple of them up chucked their lunch.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They rushed back as one big bunch.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They burst into the choppers cabin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Two blocked the door so they could grab him.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWhat kind of meat was in that stew?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cIt was rabbit, you ignorant fool.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They tied him up and took him&nbsp; to town.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Right away many people gathered around.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>When they told them about the stew,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>they yelled \u201cHang him. That\u2019s the rule.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They built a gallows in the town square.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>It had a trap door to snap his neck there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They hauled the chopper up to the noose.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Put a black hood on his head. Kept it loose.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Then put the noose around his neck.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The hangman tugged it. Not in just.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>With the mayor\u2019s nod, he pulled the lever.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The trapdoor flew open, really cleaver.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The wood chopper dropped through.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The crowd cheered because they knew.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The wood chopper\u2019s neck had snapped.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Then they looked within the trap.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>To their shock no one was there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Just the noose and the hood lying there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Where the hell could he have gone?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>People were feeling spooked before long.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>A group headed for the wood chopper\u2019s cabin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>They thought he was there and would grab him.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&nbsp;He was gone, along with the wood.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How could that be? Too much wood.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>No one could move that much wood that fast.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>There were no tracks in the grass.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>In the afternoon, the missing girl walked into town.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>She said wolves cared for her. One lead her to town.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The wood chopper was innocent. What had they done?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Several people were ready to run.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The wood chopper was never seen again.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The town didn\u2019t know how to amend their sin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Years later, it was just an old wives tale.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Many thought it wasn\u2019t true, as they drank their ale.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>But, the old folks,&#8212;- children at the time.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Knew it was not a nursery rhyme.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How &amp; when would the town pay for their crime?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<strong><em>R.W.
