I saw you watching me from across the room.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know you but, I feel that will change soon.<\/p>\n

You look so young. But, then, I can\u2019t judge age.<\/p>\n

I just hope we will be on the same page.<\/p>\n

Then I think. You don\u2019t know how old I am.<\/p>\n

Should I lie about my age or be a man.<\/p>\n

Wait!!—–Your starting to walk my way.<\/p>\n

Is there something that I should say?<\/p>\n

I run through a number of opening lines.<\/p>\n

None seem appropriate for this place & time.<\/p>\n

Before I can speak you say: \u201cHi, I\u2019m Sue.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t speak first & sound like a fool.<\/p>\n

I said \u201cHi Sue\u201d, and I told her my name.<\/p>\n

She said \u201cYou look like a guy named Wayne.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t know him.\u201d, I said with a smile.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo problem.\u201d She said. \u201cIt\u2019s been awhile.\u201d<\/p>\n

I said \u201cNew place and new times.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said \u201cYou bet. And it feels fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

We started talking over a drink or two.<\/p>\n

She liked a lot of things that I did too.<\/p>\n

I asked what she was doing here?<\/p>\n

She said \u201cSitting with you having a beer.\u201d<\/p>\n

I asked her if she lived here in town.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I do.\u201d She said with a frown.<\/p>\n

Concerned, I said \u201cBefore this goes too far,<\/p>\n

I want to know how young you are?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am young enough to be your daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you think I look like your father?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. Does the age difference bother you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly if I look or feel like a fool.\u201d<\/p>\n

To this she gave the nicest laugh.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry. I\u2019ll try not to call you pap.\u201d<\/p>\n

I laughed too and the night went on.<\/p>\n

After awhile we noticed most others were gone.<\/p>\n

I asked her if she had a car.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t walk here. It\u2019s too far.\u201d<\/p>\n

I said I was close. Did she want to follow me home?<\/p>\n

\u201cI can do that. It\u2019s better than being alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later on at my small but, comfortable apartment.<\/p>\n

We sat and talked more as my heart went<\/p>\n

into double time as she drew close to me.<\/p>\n

I said \u201cJust a minute. I have to pee.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the bathroom I thought .She doesn\u2019t know my age.<\/p>\n

It sounds like we are on the same page.<\/p>\n

But, she just doesn\u2019t know my real age.<\/p>\n

I returned and said \u201cI have something to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

I told her my real age. Thought she would say \u201cNo way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, she just melted in my arms.<\/p>\n

As secure as a calf on the farm.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t felt this way in years and years.<\/p>\n

It was enough to bring me to tears.<\/p>\n

I never thought of her as a daughter.<\/p>\n

She never said I was her father.<\/p>\n

But, we slept all night in each others arms.<\/p>\n

Both afraid to move. We both felt safe from harm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will last as long as I am alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says \u201cDon\u2019t mention it. We have arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n

I agreed as I drank tea with honey from sage.<\/p>\n

I thought to myself. She didn\u2019t even know my age.<\/p>\n
