The Gift<\/p>\n
Glowing in the darkness was the gift.<\/p>\n
Like shadows glistening in the night.<\/p>\n
Bedded down about the \u201cold one\u201d where he sits,<\/p>\n
the entire herd was safe in the meager light.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At the first hint of smoke she sprang to action.<\/p>\n
Pushing open the door, the horses ran to freedom.<\/p>\n
Slowly, with dignity, the horses digging for traction,<\/p>\n
She led them up the snowy hill to the \u201cold one.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The young horses were nervous & gave a whine.<\/p>\n
But, calmed as the \u201cold one\u201d came into sight.<\/p>\n
She moved up the hill to the safety of the pine<\/p>\n
Where the \u201cold one\u201d rested with his wife.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She lay among the animals as one anointed<\/p>\n
and gazed at the faces of the \u201cold one\u201d and his wife.<\/p>\n
Those she loved she had not disappointed.<\/p>\n
Her body, brittle,\u00a0 with the years of her long life.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She was tired from the long climb and her years;<\/p>\n
golden eyes filled with tears as she offered her gift.<\/p>\n
Because of love, the couples eyes filled with joy & tears.<\/p>\n
They shouted their praise and joy for the gift.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The gift of love and devotion until the end.<\/p>\n
The bearer of the gift kneeled in praise.<\/p>\n
The \u201cold one\u201d accepted the gift from his friend.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cMay you always be wise in your ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
