\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Halloween Games<\/strong><\/p>\n It was a foggy trick or treat night.<\/p>\n We stayed close to keep in sight.<\/p>\n The night had been good to us so far.<\/p>\n We had enough candy to fill a car.<\/p>\n Just one more house up ahead.<\/p>\n The one that was haunted, people said.<\/p>\n It was the mansion behind the cemetery.<\/p>\n To say it was spooky was quite contrary.<\/p>\n We were a little slow with our approach.<\/p>\n The lawn was thick like walking on mulch.<\/p>\n After a double dog dare I banged the knocker.<\/p>\n We heard a squeak like a broken down rocker.<\/p>\n Then, the sound of feet shuffling along.<\/p>\n If we weren\u2019t so scared we would have been gone.<\/p>\n We heard a deadbolt being thrown.<\/p>\n Then we heard another moving with a grown.<\/p>\n Slowly the door creaked as it was opened.<\/p>\n A dark figure stood there and hadn\u2019t spoken.<\/p>\n A woman in black with a hood over her head<\/p>\n stood facing us . She smelled like she was dead.<\/p>\n She looked down and I saw her face.<\/p>\n She looked like a witch with skin like paste.<\/p>\n \u201cTrick or treat\u201d we stammered out.<\/p>\n Our bags were shaking that we held out.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, you wanna play a trick on ole Joyce\u201d,<\/p>\n she said with a high scratchy voice.<\/p>\n \u201cNo mamm, it\u2019s Halloween\u201d I managed to say.<\/p>\n She said\u201d Well, come on in. I have a game we can play.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you win you will get a treat.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you lose I will get something to eat.\u201d<\/p>\n She pulled us in & slammed the door with a cackle.<\/p>\n \u201cGo in to my parlor now before it\u2019s midnight.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s the bewitching hour when we \u2018treat\u2019 kids right.\u201d<\/p>\n We were all too scared to worry about loot.<\/p>\n We were almost peeing in our boots.<\/p>\n \u201cThe game goes like this. Three of you get 3 guesses.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s one guess each. Don\u2019t make any messes.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou have to guess my name.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you do you win the game.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou are first. Let\u2019s hear your guess?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cJoyce?\u201d Joey said in a voice that was his best.<\/p>\n \u201cWrong\u201d she yelled. \u201cI knew that would lead you astray.\u201d<\/p>\n She looked at Peter to see what he\u2019d say?<\/p>\n \u201cRumplestiltskin\u201d he finally gasped out.<\/p>\n She roared with laughter shaking all about.<\/p>\n \u201cNice try kid but, that\u2019s strike two.\u201d<\/p>\n Looking at me she said \u201cNow, I want to hear from you.\u201d<\/p>\n I happened to see an envelope sitting on a stand.<\/p>\n I remember the name printed on it by hand.<\/p>\n Along with the address of this place.<\/p>\n I took a chance and said to her face.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re Ms. Haddie Hinklebow\u201d<\/p>\n Her eyes opened big and she stared with a scowl<\/p>\n \u201cNow, how did you know that?.\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n \u201cI saw a letter as I went by\u201d I gasped.<\/p>\n She shook her head and said \u201cYou win.\u201d<\/p>\n She gave each of us a sack of candy and gold .<\/p>\n She said \u201cCome again next year if you are bold.\u201d<\/p>\n We ran like hell and never went back.<\/p>\n Years later we include the story in our \u00a0Halloween\u00a0 sacks<\/p>\n ——————————————————R.
